Westman Atelier Foundation Stick is clean, luxurious, and stunning on.
If you know me at all, you know I don’t normally gravitate toward cream stick foundations. Typically they look heavier, more cakey, and drier on the skin. But, lately, there’s been some bomb launches (Patrick Ta Major Skin is stunning). Another great newer launch is Westman Atelier Vital Skin Foundation Stick. This stick foundation is packed with skincare goodies and promises a natural look and feel. Is Vital Skin the best foundation stick in luxury beauty?
Promises vs. Performance: How skin-like will this cream foundation stick be?
Westman Atelier says their Vital Skin Foundation is a “buildable, molten texture” that “melts into skin.” Vital Skin provides a radiant, natural finish that soothes skin, combats redness, and evens out complexion. The formula is infused with antioxidants and calming ingredients, such as vegetable derived squalane to add moisture, berryflux vita extract to boost hydration and fortify youth-preserving properties, camellia seed oil provides antioxidant protection and strengthens the moisture barrier, and coconut oil rejuvenates dehydrated skin and improves elasticity.
Simply swipe this foundation directly onto skin and use a brush, sponge, or fingers to blend. I like to use my Bobbi Brown Face Brush ($55), which works for just about any base. Westman Atelier claims Vital Skin to be buildable, and I find it gives a solid light to medium coverage without looking heavy or cakey. It looks natural and skin-like on and dries to a non-tacky finish. I love that I don’t need a face primer or setting powder with this product, which keeps my routine minimal. I will say, Vital Skin can look dry and wears best over well-moisturized skin.
With cream foundation, I’m pretty happy if I get at least 6 hours of wear. I’d say Vital Skin wears well for 6-8 hours, which is average for a cream formula. It looks natural and skin-like, but can cling to dry patches if skin is dry. You can always spritz a skin refresher, like Tower 28 SOS Spray, over top for a boost of hydration! Vital Skin is also great for on-the-go touch-ups. You can dab a bit on and blend out just with your finger. It layers well without looking too heavy, just don’t pack on the product. I find I get minimal settling and creasing, but, again, this can happen if too much product is layered.
Quick Rating Rundown
How It Compares: Is Westman Cream Foundation Stick the best cream foundation?
For a cream foundation stick, Westman Atelier Vital Skin is absolutely stunning. In my opinion, most cream complexion stick formulas are dry, can look heavy, and don’t wear well. Westman Atelier solved most of these issues with Vital Skin. The texture of this foundation is beautiful. It glides on easily, blends effortlessly, and sets to a natural, skin-like finish. Because it is so creamy, it does resist creasing, settling, and clinging. I find that I can get a solid light to medium coverage, but past that it can get a bit heavy looking and have a tendency to settle. This Westman Atelier foundation wears well for 6-8 hours, which is average for a cream formula.
There’s very few cream foundations that compare to this one. I’ve come across a few over the years, to include Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Stick, Tom Ford Traceless Foundation, and Patrick Ta Major Skin. But, I think Westman Atelier may just be my favorite – at least in luxury beauty!
