Sephora Retractable Rouge Gel Lip Liner is an ultra pigmented formula.
Lip liners are a fun product to help create different lip looks. One of the more popular trends and uses is for overlining lips, AKA making your lips look bigger and fuller. This can be tricky, especially with the wrong formula. During a wear test for the Milabu Channel, I tested out Rouge Gel Lip Liner from Sephora. I found this product to be super creamy, pigmented, and, it features a built-in sharpener, which makes creating overlined lips even easier. But, this lip liner did have some downfalls in the performance department. Let’s review Sephora Lip Liner.
Promises vs. Performance: Wow! This lip pencil is creamy.
Sephora.com says their lip liner is an “innovative gel-cream formula.” They claim this product to be a long lasting and non drying on the lips. Gel Lip Liner is said to be creamy and glide on easily. It is retractable, and comes with a built in sharpener to get an ultra precise point. The 30 shades were created to find a near exact color match for their #Lipstories and Cream lipstick ranges.
My Review Thoughts: Sephora Lip Liner
When applying this lip liner from Sephora, I barely had to use any pressure. The formula is creamy and glides on super easy. It is ultra pigmented and you really do get the full color in just one swipe. With how hydrating it is, it made me think it wouldn’t be super long lasting. And I was right. While this lip pencil felt nice on the lips, it didn’t stay put very long.
How It Compares: Is it worth $13?
So next in the review, let’s compare Sephora Lip Liner vs the competition. While I did enjoy this lip liner for its ultra creamy formula and intense pigment, I wouldn’t say it is worth $13. In my opinion, you get a much better value from NYX Slim Lip Pencil. The NYX pencil is creamy, pigmented, and long lasting. And the best part? It’s only $4. Yep, you read that right. For $4 and easily accessible at many retailers (Target, Ulta, Walgreens), you can’t go wrong with this pencil. I truly believe it is the best drugstore lip liner on the market.
I will say, I don’t think this is a bad product. Since Sephora formulated the shades to match their #Lipstories and Cream lipstick lines, you can find a perfect duo for a bargain!
Milabu Beauty Method: Hot Sauce + Oui are a fab combo.
- Begin with lining the lips. To overline, draw just around the outside of your lip border. For this, make sure your lip liner is nice and sharpe! It’s a good thing Sephora includes a built-in sharpener.
- Now that you have your outline, apply Sephora #Lipstories Lipstick in Oui ($9). These apply really nicely and you get good color in just one swipe.
- Smush your lips together to blend everything out. But not too hard, as we don’t want to disturb the color!
Tip: Feeling fancy? Top off the lips with a shiny lip gloss. One of my faves is Tower 28 ShineOn Lip Jelly in Magic ($15). It is a stunning shimmery shade that adds the right amount of sparkle to any lip look. Apply to the middle of the bottom and top lip to add a highlight effect. Here, we don’t want to rub our lips together. Let the gloss do it’s thing!
