Our Rating Criteria

Will the viral 3 Drop Foundation meet my standards?

What do I look for in a foundation? I prefer light to medium coverage formulas that evens out redness and conceals some of my sun spots/blemishes without feeling heavy. My skin is combination with some dry spots and a more oily t-zone. In terms of longevity, I want it to wear with minimal breaking apart and settling for at least 8 hours. Now, let’s put Rituel de Fille 3 Drop Foundation to the test.

Promises vs. Performance: 3 Drop Foundation applies like a dream.

Rituel de Fille 3 Drop Foundation is full of innovation. In fact, it’s the first product in any category (even skincare) to contain a new active carotenoid ingredient called fermented phytoene, which offers short term and long term benefits. The tinted oil foundation provides weightless buildable medium coverage that is never sticky, never greasy, and never drying. It’s fragrance free, but scents of jojoba and marula oils may peek through. As its name suggests, it takes just 3 drops to transform the skin for an even, natural, glowy finish.

From the name to the viral reviews, I was intrigued by the 3 Drop Foundation from Rituel de Fille. I love a lightweight foundation that can even out my redness and blemishes without feeling heavy or looking cakey. Rituel 3 Drop Foundation applies easily (I used my beloved Bobbi Brown Face Brush), which made it super easy to apply. For my initial wear test, I did half my face with a primer and half without. I didn’t notice anything tricky about the application, and complexion enhancers layered beautifully over top.

During my initial wear test of the 3 Drop Foundation, I wore it for well over 12 hours. For this long of wear, I’m pretty pleased with how it looked. While it was still accentuating my dry spots, it wasn’t much worse than when I first applied. My excess oils were kept to my t-zone only, but it did wear off on the non-primer side. For best results with this foundation, you really have to prep your skin. Pair it with a hydrating, gripping primer to give it something to hold onto.

How It Compares: Is the 3 Drop Foundation better than others?

Well guys, the viral 3 Drop Foundation from Rituel de Fille doesn’t check all my boxes. I love the easy application and lightweight feel, but there’s a lot left to be desired. The finish isn’t what I expect out of a serum foundation as it accentuates and clings to dry spots and texture. I do appreciate it doesn’t contribute to excess oils with being an oil-based foundation, though. If you don’t mind something that isn’t long wearing and requires touch-ups, the lightweight feel is nice for daily wear. Plus, it’s certified organic and has skincare benefits!

The foundation I (and lots of others) consider to be a standard is Estée Lauder Double Wear. With Double Wear, I don’t have to worry what base I pair it with or how I set it, I know it’s going to last me a solid 8+ hours. That being said, the application isn’t quite foolproof. Its thicker texture can look heavy pretty easily if too much is applied. It can settle and accentuate texture and lines, but if paired with a pore filling or gripping primer this can be eliminated. Double Wear gives a soft matte to natural finish that suits pretty much all skin types.

Foundations aren’t a one-size-fits-all, for both skin types and occasions. The Milabu Team put together a list of the “12 Best Foundations You Need To Try,” which includes our favorites.

Comparison To Other Serum Foundations

Let’s compare the Rituel 3 Drop Foundation to other serum foundation formulas. There’s better on the market, still in the clean beauty world and with skincare benefits.

Best Clean Serum Foundation

Another great option is LYS Triple Fix (also a clean formula!). It provides solid buildable medium coverage, applies effortlessly, and wears beautifully for 6-8 hours. While it doesn’t have the longest wear time out there, it doesn’t break apart or look patchy. I only get a bit of creasing and accentuated texture around my smile lines after 6-8 hours of wear. Even when I don’t powder or touch up my face throughout the day, I don’t get super oily – just a really nice glow. At $22, LYS Triple Fix is a great option for a serum foundation.

Best Clean Serum Skin Tint

ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint is a complexion product with big benefits. Super Serum Skin Tint provides lightweight sheer to light-medium coverage for an even complexion. It’s infused with hyaluronic acid and squalane to hydrate and plump skin, while niacinamide helps soften fine lines, texture, and imperfections. This one has a better finish on the skin compared to Rituel de Fille, as it doesn’t accentuate or cling to texture, dry spots, or pores.

Best Drugstore Skin Tint

Based on its ratings, Maybelline Super Stay Skin Tint may just be the best at the drugstore. The application is foolproof. It gives light to medium coverage while remaining weightless and skin-like. The finish can be described as natural, healthy radiance. It blurs pores, smooths lines, and doesn’t accentuate any texture on skin. And it has one of the best skin tint longevities I’ve come across.
