Our Rating Criteria

Is Revlon ColorStay Foundation the best at the drugstore?

Finding a good drugstore foundation can be like finding a needle in a haystack. They’re there, you may just go through a lot of trial and error! I’ve tried a lot over the years and have formed a pretty good eye for those that are good. Recently, Revlon ColorStay Foundation received a revamp to its two versions (combo/oily and normal/dry). I compare just about every drugstore foundation I try to a holy grail of mine, L’Oreal Infallible Fresh Wear. Would the combo/oily Revlon /ColorStay Foundation live up to my expectations?

The new Combo/Oily Revlon ColorStay Foundation has a lot to offer, from an oil controlling matte finish to an all day, 24 hour wear that resists heat, humidity, and sweat. I’ve got to give this foundation props, because it does apply and wear well. But is it the best drugstore foundation? Let’s discuss.

Our Rating Criteria

Promises vs. Performance: This Revlon foundation holds its own.

The new and improved Revlon ColorStay Foundation is here. Meet Revlon ColorStay 24 HR Long Wear Foundation for combination/oily skin. This foundation is breathable and buildable, for up to 24 hours of transfer resistant, waterproof wear (t’s heat, sweat, and humidity resistant!). The formula is infused with antioxidant vitamin E to nourish and protect skin, as well as multi-mineral powders to control oils. It promises a poreless, matte finish and comfortable, lightweight feel. And, it has an SPF of 15 to help protect from harmful sun rays.

As a whole, I’m pretty impressed by Revlon’s improved ColorStay foundation line. It’s soft, whipped texture applies beautifully with a brush and gives an immediate light coverage that can be built up to a true medium coverage. It does set pretty quickly, and I’d recommend applying with a dense foundation brush for best results (I love the C42 Foundation Bush from Rose and Ben). As promised, it has a matte finish, but the glow of my skincare is still able to peek through. It’s not a super flat finish, which I love.

In terms of the wear of the Combo/Oily Revlon SuperStay Foundation, I give it a solid 9-10 hours without breaking apart. On me, it does tend to settle and crease around my nose, and my excess oils begin peeking through after 6-8 hours. All in all though, I’m impressed with this drugstore foundation.

How It Compares: Revlon ColorStay Foundation is a solid affordable option.

I’m quite happy with the performance of the Revlon ColorStay Foundation for combination/oily skin. The foundation itself has an easy to apply texture that has a light to medium buildable coverage. Its matte finish keeps me shine free and wears with minimal settling or creasing for 6-8 hours. Plus, I’ve gotta give it props for including SPF 15 to protect from harmful sun rays. But, how does Revlon ColorStay foundation compare to one of the best selling full coverage foundation on the market, IL Makiage Woke Up Like This?

In my opinion, Revlon Colorstay Combo/Oily Foundation is a wonderful affordable option if you’ve been eyeing IL MAKIAGE Woke Up Like This foundation. Both have a matte finish with medium to full buildable coverage. From my experience, Revlon ColorStay is easier to apply and build without looking heavy on my skin. I also get a solid 8 hours of wear before my makeup starts to break apart with Revlon. IL MAKIAGE foundation does have a leg up on shade range, offering 50 shades with different undertones to chose from. Unfortunately, even after doing their shade match quiz, my shade was still not an exact match.
