Our Rating Criteria

The battle of Revlon Air Straight VS Dyson Airstrait.

Based on its name, I’m going to go out on a limb and say Revlon Air Straight is trying to be a dupe for the Dyson Airstrait. Both are a new to market wet to dry straightener designed to cut down on drying and styling time. But, will their name be the only quality they share?

Other Dyson Airstrait Straightener Dupes

Airstrait Dupes

There are some Dyson Airstrait Straightener Dupes on the market and they will continue stacking up as time goes by. I would say the best two so far are Revlon Air straight and GHD Duet.

However, I have found a Dyson hair dryer attachment that is trying to be a dupe for the Airstrait. And of course there is a product that has been out for a while, Revair. I have tested it a few times. This is a a very safe hair dryer and hair styler. It does straighten hair, but you will not get those pin straight results. It is kind of expensive to be a Airstrait dupe, but it is a very safe hair drying alternative.

Promises vs. Performance: It does work, but is it efficient?

Revlon Air Straight is the newest addition to the award-winning Revlon One Step lineup. This hair tool is a 2-in-1 hair dryer and straightener, designed to dry and style simultaneously. It has air vents on one side and a 1.4″ ceramic tourmaline plate with teeth on the other side. Revlon has also introduced new AirPause Technology which controls airflow depending on whether the handles are squeezed together or open, pausing airflow completely when the arms are released. There are 6 heat and 3 airspeed settings to customize styling to your hair needs.

It’s said Air Straight leaves hair feeling healthy and soft as it dries and styles, evenly distributing concentrated airflow and maintaining 100% of hair’s natural moisture.

How To Use

Revlon Air Straight can be used on damp or dry hair.

Damp hair: Air dry or rough dry hair until it’s at least 80% dry. Work in manageable sections, going from roots to tips. Revlon suggests starting with low air, then adjusting to medium or high as needed.

Dry hair: Set styler to ‘air & heated plates’ or ‘heated plates only.’ Work in manageable sections, clamping hair firmly at the roots, sliding to the ends.

Note: Do not use heated plates on wet/damp hair.

My personal thoughts.

Right off the bat, Revlon Air Straight reminds me of a combination of the Dyson Airstrait and the ghd Duet Style, since it has both airflow and ceramic plates. In my first test with the Air Straight, I started with air dried, damp hair as Revlon suggests. I worked with about 2 inch sections of hair and did find that the teeth helped separate and direct hair, but you have to be careful – the teeth and plates aren’t buttery smooth and can tug on hair, even pulling it out. What I did not expect was how many passes I had to do for each section of hair! After 7 passes, my hair was still damp and wasn’t fully straight. It took about 10 minutes to do one side of my hair, getting it fully dry and as straight as possible. One thing I do want to mention is the rounded design and repeated passes made my hand cramp up after just styling the one side of my hair!

All in all – the Revlon Air Straight does work, but doesn’t give the best results when compared to other wet to dry stylers. It doesn’t produce super straight, shiny, sleek hair despite Revlon’s claims. The airflow also isn’t very directional, which can result in some frizziness. Because of how many passes and the not-so-sleek results, I think it kind of defeats the purpose of being a wet to straight styler. I still need to follow-up with a flat iron for the ultra-sleek results I desire when I straighten my hair, which results in longer styling time when compared to the Dyson Airstrait (more on that below).

How It Compares: Revlon Air Straight isn’t exactly a Dyson Airstrait dupe…

What I can say about the Revlon Air Straight is that it does work. It dries hair relatively straight for a good base for further styling. But, I can’t say it’s exactly a Dyson Airstrait dupe. Really, the only things they have it common are being wet to dry stylers and having an oddly similar name. Yes, they both dry and straighten hair, buy Dyson does it better and more efficiently than Revlon. Dyson Airstrait is a one & done wet to dry styler, while Revlon Air Straight is a multi-step styler. I could see it being a good option for someone with more curly, coarse, thick hair who need a good base before straightening with a flat iron. But, me personally, I’d choose my Dyson Airstrait or Airwrap over this tool any day.

How does Revlon Air Straight compare to other wet to dry stylers?

Dyson Airstrait + Dyson Airwrap

In my opinion, the Revlon Air Straight is more comparable to the Dyson Airwrap Smoothing Brush rather than the Dyson Airstrait. It gives about the same results as the smoothing brush, where if I want sleek, straight hair I’d need to go in with an actual straightener with hot plates afterward.

There really is no comparison to the Dyson Airstrait. Dyson continues to produce top of the line, technologically advanced hair tools. With Dyson Airstrait, my hair goes from damp to ultra sleek and straight in less than 10 minutes, whereas with Revlon Air Straight, it takes closer to 30 since I have to dry then straighten.

ghd Duet Style

The ghd Duet Style is a great tool for two things and two things only: drying and straightening hair to achieve sleek, shiny results in one step. Its plates are smooth and glide like butter through hair when styling, but you do need a brush to guide the hair through the plates to achieve tangle free results. Needless to say, I had to use both hands to operate ghd Duet Style to ensure the section of hair stayed clamped as the plates glided down the section of hair (and my arms get tired fast from this!). It does produce great results, and its compact design is perfect for travel/small storage spaces.

Remington Wet2Style

Remington Wet2Style is another wet to dry styler that has been around for awhile. The flat iron features a unique venting system using hot plates to remove moisture from hair when it’s damp, taking the hair to dry and smooth all in one. However, this one isn’t as consistent with results and it takes a long longer. When using this Remington hair tool, it takes me nearly twice as long as it does with the ghd Duet Style or the Dyson tools.
