Is Patrick Ta Major Skin Creme Foundation the best cream foundation?
I’m not going to lie, compact cream foundations usually aren’t my favorite formula. They’re trickier to apply, tend to look heavier and cakey on the skin, aren’t long wearing, and don’t really become one with the skin. However, I think I have found the best cream foundation and one of my new holy grail products: Patrick Ta Major Skin Creme Foundation and Finishing Powder Duo. In the past, Patrick Ta hasn’t done me wrong, so I had high hopes when I picked up this product. My excitement started when the launch leaked to the press. And, let me tell you, my excitement is still there.
Promises vs. Performance: How skin-like will this cream face base be?
So what does this cream foundation promise? Patrick Ta Major Skin Creme Foundation and Finishing Powder Duos offer buildable medium coverage with a natural finish. The duo contains a cream foundation and setting powder that are formulated to work together for fresh, dewy, skin-like luminosity. It has a flexible polymer blend with soft-focus blurring powders, transparent pigments, and glow-enhancing emollients which work to minimize the appearance of pores and imperfections. Patrick Ta does recommend applying to clean, primed skin and setting in oil-prone areas for best results.
To really get the full effect of Patrick Ta Major Skin Creme Foundation, I also picked up the Dual-Ended Complexion Brush № 2 ($45). This brush is said to be the perfect tool for a seamless, airbrushed complexion, which is what the foundation promises to give as well. To apply, I dabbed the brush into the compact to pick up product before swiping it onto my skin. I started with striping motions to place the product, then went in with buffing motions to blend. Instantly, I was met with skin-like, natural coverage that allowed the glow of my skincare to still peek through. It was love at first application if I do say so myself.
Like I mentioned above, I’m not usually into cream foundations. But, this one is special. It gives the prettiest skin-like finish with buildable light to medium coverage. As promised, my pores looked blurred and my imperfections were minimized. Both cream and products layered beautifully over top, without lifting the foundation or looking patchy. To continue how impressed I am, Major Skin Creme Foundation has a phenomenal wear compared to its rivals. I experience minimal settling, creasing, and cakey looking wear. Though, I will say it is best paired with a primer for a long wear with minimal fading.
Quick Rating Rundown
How It Compares: Patrick Ta Major Skin Creme Foundation is in my weekly rotation.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t going to put this cream foundation in the top drawer of my vanity. This is truly the first cream foundation I was impressed with from start to finish, application to removal. Its skin-like finish is stunning and the buildable medium coverage gives skin a soft-focus blur while minimizing pores and imperfections. For a cream foundation, it has a phenomenal wear that doesn’t look cakey, has minimal settling and creasing, and doesn’t contribute to excess oiliness. If you’re in the market for a new foundation, I’d check this one out.
One thing to note with the packaging is that, yes, it’s great you get two products in a pretty rose gold compact, but the cover for the cream foundation is a little flimsy. On my Major Sculpt Bronze palette, the cover has already broken off after less than 6 months of use.
Let’s compare to our pick for the standard cream foundation: Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation Stick (rated **** 4.0). This cream foundation is easier to apply since all you do is swipe it on. Teint Idole Foundation Stick does have fuller coverage and its texture is drier, which lends itself to a longer wear, but this comes at an expense: it can look heavy and cakey pretty easily. If you like the convenience of a stick for on-the-go and touch-ups, Lancome could be a good option. But, I personally like Patrick Ta Major Skin a bit more with its flawless skin-like finish.
