Acne prone and want full coverage? Neutrogena CC Cream is for you.
Full coverage and acne prone aren’t often two phrases you hear together. Full coverage foundations are usually the least breathable and are full of comedogenic ingredients that can cause acne. Neutrogena is a reputable skincare brand that has several products geared towards those with sensitive skin, including a skincare infused makeup line. Part of the ‘Clear Coverage’ line, Flawless Matte Neutrogena CC Cream is specifically marketed for acne prone skin. Will this good-for-skin formula perform? Let’s find out.
Promises vs. Performance: Good for skin, but good for coverage and all day wear?
The Neutrogena CC Cream is developed with dermatologists and specifically formulated for sensitive, acne prone skin. Flawless Matte CC Cream provides full coverage with a matte finish, color correcting to conceal imperfections and even skin tone. It’s infused with niacinamide to help skin over time, and is free of irritants like oil, fragrance, parabens, SLS/SLES sulfates, and phthalates. In addition, its free of hypoallergenic and non comedogenic.
Neutrogena CC Cream has a thicker, whipped formula. It does have a bit of resistance when applying, so you do have to work quickly and a dense brush works best to blend it out. Immediately, you get a solid medium coverage that can easily be built up fuller. Neutrogena claims a matte finish, but I find it is more of a soft matte finish that allows the glow of my skincare to peek through. It looks natural on, not exaggerating any texture, lines, or bumps on the skin. And, it even helps color correct and redness and blemishes!
Now, the wear of the Neutrogena CC Cream isn’t the best, but that is to be expected out of a BB/CC cream. After all, this isn’t your typical full coverage foundation. It wears decent for the firsts 4-6 hours, but, after that, it begins separating, settling, and oils begin breaking through.

Neutrogena:Flawless Matte CC Cream
How It Compares: Is this the best CC cream?
This isn’t your average CC cream. Neutrogena Flawless Matte CC Cream has full coverage, a matte finish, and a skin-loving formula. It was specifically developed alongside dermatologists for acne-prone skin, and is infused with niacinamide to help improve skin while you wear it. It applies easily with any tool and doesn’t cling to or exaggerate any texture/bumps/lines/imperfections. While the wear isn’t the longest when compared to other full coverage foundation formulas, this is a winner when it comes to lightweight, good-for-skin full coverage.
My holy grail drugstore skin tint would have to be L’Oreal True Match Hyaluronic Tinted Serum. This one gives a light coverage with a radiant finish (more natural looking). It has a satin, non-greasy feel and lightweight wear. The texture is thinner, which, in my opinion, allows it to pair even better with a wide variety of base products. It creates a stunning blurred effect on the skin, doesn’t accentuate imperfections, and doesn’t contribute to excess oiliness. These are just a few of the reasons why I love this skin tint.
But, let me be honest, I love skin tints and can’t get enough of them. Check out the Milabu team’s list of the Best Skin Tints for all of our favorites, including favorite formulas like this one from Wet n Wild, L’Oreal, plus other coveted formulas from brands like caliray, Saie, and ILIA.

Neutrogena CC Cream isn’t your typical face base in the tinted moisturizer/skin tint/BB and CC cream category. It offers much more coverage than your typical base in this category, and, for that reason, we have rated it as a foundation.
