Mineral Fusion claims their liquid foundation gives flawless, full coverage.

If you’ve ever perused the beauty aisle at Whole Foods, I’m sure you’ve seen the brand Mineral Fusion. They are a natural cosmetics brand with a goal of leaving “skin and hair in better condition than we found it.” They promise to create smarter products that not only perform, but improve your complexion, nourish, and be safe for even the most sensitive skin types.

Something I think is cool about the brand is that they are made in the USA, with many of their products still being handmade. I’ve tested several of the products in their lineup and one of my favorites was their Liquid Foundation (24 shades). I will say, this one surprised me because I definitely did not think I would enjoy it.

Promises vs. Performance: The look of Mineral Fusion Liquid Foundation on the skin is pretty, but will it last?

Mineral Fusion says their Liquid Foundation is “your 24/7 skin filter,” giving your skin that “I-woke-up-like-this look.” It is a full coverage, matte finish that promises to be streak proof, crease proof, and nothing less than flawless. The formula includes an antioxidant blend (green tea, pomegranate, vitamin c, and peptides) to help skin become firmer and look more youthful. It also includes licorice root, aloe vera, and lavender to soothe and calm. This liquid foundation is hypoallergenic, cruelty free, and vegan, as well as free of gluten, talc, parabens, phthalates, and fragrance.

Well, there’s no pump with this foundation, making it a bit hard to control how much you use and not the quickest for dispensing product. It is a thicker formula, reminding me of a mousey texture. But, for how thick it is, it blends in really quickly and easily with the fingertips (a brush works well, too!). You can build it up to a medium-full coverage pretty easily. I got a nice soft matte finish and it felt super lightweight on my skin. Though, it does oxidize immediately on skin. It really warms up and almost auto adjusts to your perfect shade. Luckily, it didn’t oxidize in a weird way and still looked really pretty.

At the beginning of my wear, I really enjoyed the look of this foundation. It gave me a soft matte finish that didn’t exaggerate any dry spots or imperfections. But, that didn’t last all day. Mineral Fusion says this is a 24/7 skin filter, but after about the 6 hour mark, it wasn’t so much that. It did start to exaggerate texture and imperfections the longer I wore the foundation. For the most part, my skin did look even aside from extra oiliness in my t-zone. Like I said, this was one of the few Mineral Fusion products that wowed me, but even it’s performance didn’t stand out for the price. There’s definitely better options out there in professional grade beauty, and even at the drugstore.

Our Rating Criteria

How It Compares: While I enjoyed the Mineral Fusion Liquid Foundation, I think there are better options out there for price versus performance.

I gotta say, as a whole, Mineral Fusion is not the best for performance versus value. The prices are high for the amount of product you get and the performance. One of the few that I would consider recommending is their Liquid Foundation. At $32.99 a bottle, you get 1 fl.oz. which is in line with other professional grade foundations. I think it’s a bit conflicting whether this is a drugstore or professional brand because it’s sold at places and in areas of stores where you would think drugstore, but the prices reflect that of professional grade brands.

As far as the performance, I think this is a solid natural foundation if you are looking for something free of a lot of harsh chemicals. It has a lightweight feel and provides a medium to full coverage. It is blurring and has more of a brightened, natural finish.

I would recommend spending a few more bucks to get a better foundation. Estée Lauder Double Wear (rated *****4.6)is around that same price point and has a more well-rounded performance. It features a wear that lasts much longer with a medium to full buildable coverage. Double Wear is a cult favorite for a reason as its performance versus value checks out.

But, if you’re looking for something more on the natural side that still performs, I’d look into LYS Triple Fix Serum Foundation (rated **** 4.3). It performs better, and is cheaper at just $22 a bottle.

Milabu Beauty Method: Skip the tools because this foundation is best applied with the fingers.

  1. Carefully pour out about a pearl sized amount of product.
  2. Pick up some of the product with your fingertips and begin rubbing it into your skin. I like to start towards the center of my face, where I need more coverage, and work my way out.
  3. Layer to build coverage as needed.
  4. Set with a lightweight powder. ILIA Soft Focus Finishing Powder ($34) is a great natural option that performs well.
