Maybelline Fit Me Foundation: Dewy & Smooth works for all skin types.
There’s some standout products from Maybelline, from the iconic Instant Age Rewind Concealer to Lash Sensational Mascara, lipstick and brow products, and more. Therefore, you could easily do a full face of glam, long lasting makeup from Maybelline alone. In this review, we’re talking about a foundation formula I love: Maybelline Fit Me Dewy and Smooth Foundation. It gives a really healthy glow, and despite it being a more luminous, dewy foundation I think it works for any skin type. Byrdie claims this is a best drugstore foundation and I, along with 18,000 reviewers at Ulta concur.
Promises vs. Performance: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation promises hydrated and smooth skin.
From the iconic Fit Me line from Maybelline comes their Dewy & Smooth Foundation. This foundation provides a natural luminous finish that hydrates dry patches while smoothing skin texture. Featuring an SPF of 18, the fragrance free formula is allergy tested and noncomedogenic, making it safe even for sensitive skin. However, this foundation is heavily fragranced (check ingredient list). Maybelline says it is best suited for normal to dry skin asa it is a more hydrating formula. There aren’t any claims regarding coverage on Maybelline’s website, but a quick look at Ulta.com shows this to be a medium coverage foundation.
Review Thoughts: Maybelline Fit Me Dewy and Smooth Foundation
I think this is a great foundation for all skin types. The finish almost mimics whatever primer you choose to pair underneath, so even though it is a luminous finish, I do find it to look good on oilier skin as well. My skin is typically more normal to oily and by pairing a blurring primer underneath, it sort of tames the luminosity of Fit Me Dewy and brings it down to more of a natural finish.
Fit Me Dewy & Smooth applies easily and evenly with a brush or dampened sponge. Personal preference, but I typically prefer a brush with more dewy foundations since they are usually a bit more sheer and liquidy. I do find the shades (24 shades) of this foundation to be a bit off. I actually have three that I mix for my own sort of cocktail to get my perfect shade (105, 115, and 120). The coverage Fit Me Dewy gives you a buildable medium. I find this foundation to wear pretty decently and mostly even for about 6 to 8 hours, but it does start to exaggerate texture and dry spots as the day goes on.
How It Compares: The best drugstore foundation (in my opinion) remains to be Infallible.
If you’re looking for the most luminous foundation at the drugstore, check out the Dewy & Smooth Maybelline Fit Me Foundation. It provides a buildable medium coverage that gives the glowiest, most luminous skin. Though, it is versatile and can work for all skin types depending on what type of primer you pair underneath. I love how lightweight and easy it is to apply with either a brush or dampened sponge. This is one of my favorite formulas for those days where my skin feels and looks drier, as it really does just brighten up my complexion. I do think the shade range needs a bit of work, as I have to make my own custom shade from the three I own as a lot of the shades run too warm toned.
But, something about L’Oreal Infallible Fresh Wear keeps it at the top for me and remains my go-to drugstore foundation. It has a better shade range, and I can build it up to a full coverage. I also like that I can wear this foundation no matter the season and how my skin is feeling thanks to it’s lightweight, natural finish. It does cost a few more bucks, but I think it’s worth every penny.
Milabu Beauty Method: Hello, luminous skin!
Grab your preferred application method and prepare for glowy skin. Personally, I like applying this foundation with a brush. The e.l.f. Buffing Brush ($6) is a good option.
- Prep skin. If you have normal to dry skin, I’d recommend a natural primer. For combination to oily, I’d go with something more blurring and mattifying.
- Pour out (carefully!) a bit of foundation on the back of your hand.
- Dot the foundation across your face, concentrating more product where you need the most coverage.
- Taking your brush or sponge, blend out the foundation.
- Layer more as needed to build the coverage.
- Since this is a dewier foundation, I’d recommend setting with a powder. L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable ($11.99) works great.
