- Immediate intense pigment
- Ophthalmologist tested
- Clumps after 2nd coat
- Doesn’t hold curl all day
Maybelline Falsies Surreal has a lot of promises, but it doesn’t fulfill them all. It lengthens and defines, but it quickly weighs down lashes becoming flaky and smudgy.

My experience with Maybelline Falsies Surreal Mascara.
To me, a good mascara is comprised of a handful things: non clumpy application, immediate intense pigment, and whatever it promises of volume, length, curl, etc. I also don’t want my mascara to be flaky, smudgy, or transfer below my eyes or onto my eyelids. Basically, have an easy application, do what you promise, and wear well. That’s not a lot to ask for, right?! Let’s see if Maybelline Surreal Falsies Mascara will meet my standards.
Promises vs. Performance: Will Maybelline Falsies Surreal Lash live up to its claims?
Maybelline Falsies Surreal Mascara promises an added 36% length and 10x the volume. This is largely in part to its new Hybrid Fiber Technology, which is a mix of fibers of different sizes up to 3mm. It features an extend helix brush that deposits pigment from root to tip for “surreal impact” without clumping. Even better, it features up to 24 hours of smudge, flake, and smear resistant wear. The formula is ophthalmologist tested and safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers, too.
From the moment I first opened my tube of Maybelline Falsies Surreal Lash Mascara, my hopes for it being great went downhill. The brush is pretty large, with a clumpy, wet formula. You can also see all the fibers on the mascara brush, which made me worried they’d get in my eyes and just be messy.
While I wasn’t fully correct with my first impression, it still isn’t my favorite Maybelline mascara, or favorite mascara in general. It deposits immediate intense pigment with the first coat, as well as lengthens and defines. But, once you add a 2nd coat or more, it begins applying and looking clumpy. It doesn’t add as much volume as I hoped for with its 10x volume claims, either.
As far as the wear goes, I’m not impressed. The formula flakes, smudges, and transfers despite claiming being resistant to all of these things. It also weighs down lashes and doesn’t hold curl all day even with curling my lashes.

How It Compares: I’m not impressed with Maybelline Falsies Surreal.
I wish Maybelline Falsies Surreal Mascara lived up to the expectations I had for it. Between the lengthening and volumizing claims, I expected to be wowed from this mascara. But, Maybelline let me down. While my lashes looked defined and lengthened, they didn’t have the volume I expected and my curl did not last all day. The formula flaked, smudged, and transferred despite its smudge, flake, and smear resistant claims.
Honestly, there are so many awesome drugstore mascaras out there, it’s hard to choose! But if I had to pick an all-time favorite, it would definitely be Maybelline Lash Sensational. This formula has got it all – volume, length, definition, and curl. It seriously delivers on every front. Not to mention, it keeps my lashes lifted and fluffed up all day long without any annoying smudging, transferring, or flaking. Trust me, this is the ultimate go-to mascara you can find at the drugstore. It’s like a princess-worthy gem!
And if you’re looking for a clean formula, there’s a solid one at the drugstore: Covergirl Lash Blast Clean Volume. This mint blue tube packs a punch with application and performance. Definition, length, and longevity? I’ll take it.
