MakeUp ForEver Matte Velvet Skin Compact Blurring Powder Foundation.

Perhaps you’ve heard of the Internet sensation that is widely considered the best powder foundation around. If not, it’s time you get to know with Matte Velvet Skin Compact by MakeUp ForEver powder foundation. Available in 30 shades, she’s soft but promises to be long lasting. She’s a great dresser, packaged in a sleek black number that’s perfect for traveling and days on the go. She even comes with accessories. People love her multipurpose sponge and wide mirror, great for quick touchups from anywhere. Yes, she’s one to know.

I put this natural matte formula through a major wear test on a busy day with an intense, gym workout finale. Did the girl make it? Or did I work this foundation just a little too hard?

Promises vs. Performance: 12 hours of full coverage with powder foundation?

Make Up For Ever makes some smooth claims about their powder foundation. According to the website, this full coverage product blurs the skin with a “lifelike matte finish.” It’s breathable and comfortable for 12 hours of wear time. This foundation should also resist caking, flaking, and fading.

Having seen countless social media posts with images of users displaying beautiful results from makeup forever powder foundation, I was eager to try it. My shade match was a mixture of two from their 30 available options: R 210 and Y 225. I blended them in with the sponge applicator included with the compact. It comes with some nifty claims as well: The “sponge” side is best for full coverage application and the “velvet” side is for lighter coverage. I found the white velvet side more comfortable to work with and got the same amount of coverage from both.

When first applied, Matte Velvet was impressive. It instantly smoothed and evened my complexion. My skin was blurred and beautiful. It didn’t appear patchy on skin texture and tackled most of the redness on my cheeks. This powder foundation on its own gave me medium coverage on first application and layered on top of itself well for a full coverage. I thought the finish looked beautiful, and it paired well with other cream and powder products, like Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer, blush, and highlighter.

My all day wear test ended with a hardcore gym sesh, which got a little too hot for this foundation makeup. Even before working out, at around 6 hours of wear, it began looking uneven. Oil had begun to peak through and things had started to settle into my pores and lines. But for the first six to eight hours of wear, my makeup forever powder foundation looked great!

How It Compares: Why MakeUp ForEver is the best powder foundation.

Make Up For Ever is a quintessential beauty brand fueled by artists who want and deliver high performance cosmetics. Not surprisingly, with their Matte Velvet Skin Compact Blurring Powder Foundation they’ve achieved industry standard status. While other formulas may exacerbate dryness and skin texture, this multipurpose product goes on like a cloud and holds up to hours of wear. It’s a perfect option for anyone who wants a minimalist makeup routine. It’s also great for folks on the go thanks to its sleek, portable case that includes everything you need to apply it from anywhere, mirror and applicator included.

This product delivers solid medium coverage and is buildable in areas where more is needed. You’ll be able to skip concealer when you’re in a rush or don’t need extra coverage. Sheer it out with a light hand in application for a natural look that’s perfected, but that allows your beautiful freckles to show through. The brand website shows mostly five star reviews from users who declare it to be “perfect.” As far as powder foundations go, it must be close!

If you’re interested in a great powder foundation formula but don’t quite need full coverage or more than eight hours of wear, check it out. It might be perfect for you, too.

Milabu Method: How to apply MakeUp ForEver pressed powder foundation.

Get natural looking, medium coverage from this makeup in three simple steps!

  1. Use the white side (my preferred side) of the enclosed applicator sponge to pick up a small amount of product. Apply the product to the face, first in the center near your nose, working in outward swipes toward your ears and hairline.
  2. Continue this process of taking product on the sponge and swiping it from the center of your face outward, including on the forehead, cheeks, and chin, and curving the path of the sponge beneath the eyes from inner to outer corners. Cover the nose in downward strokes.
  3. Repeat until desired coverage is achieved. For me, this makeup layered and blended well and never got cakey.

Tip: I found this powder face base to be super compatible with both cream and powder products. Don’t be afraid to try your liquid or cream concealer, blush, and bronzer with this one, and in any order!
