When I want quick coverage that doesn’t require setting, Ultra HD is my go-to concealer.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t have time for my concealer creasing, feeling heavy, or not having a long wear time. And, sometimes, I just want to apply without needing to dust a setting powder on top. That’s where Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer comes in. This formula is unique in that it is self setting, not requiring any powder over top. Ultra HD is a beautiful, creamy formula that is one of the best proclaimed self setting concealers I’ve come across.
Promises vs. Performance: For not needing to set, this concealer has an impeccable long wear.
Make Up For Ever turned their beloved Ultra HD technology into a concealer. This creamy, liquid formula promises to be smoothing, hydrating, and light diffusing while providing a buildable coverage. It features coated pigments that immediately blend with skin, diminishing dark circles, fine lines, and imperfections. The natural finish gives a second skin, satin look. And, it features a self setting property that promises 12 hours of creaseproof wear.
I love the self setting property of this concealer and think it is one of the best on the market in that realm. The fact that I can just apply it and go is something I’ll never take for granted on those busy mornings. Ultra HD is a creamy formula that brightens my under eyes. Though a bit thick, it blends easily with a sponge or brush (I use one or the either depending on the coverage I want), though there is a caveat with application. This formula can set fast. Because of this, I recommend working one eye at a time, not letting it sit any longer than it has to. Even with Ultra HD being thicker, the formula feels pretty lightweight and isn’t too drying. For comparison, it is much more lightweight than Tarte Shape Tape!
A little bit goes a long way with this formula and it can look a bit heavy and dry if too much is applied, and depending on what powder is layered over top. Overall, it has a beautiful, long wear (I get a solid 10 hours) that has very minimal creasing and settling.
Quick Rating Rundown
How It Compares: Is it better than the iconic NARS?
You know, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is iconic for a reason. It’s been loved my pro makeup artists for years for its lightweight, buildable coverage, and brightening formula. It has a great shade range (30) and works on any skin type. It’s one of those concealer that never lets me down when I want lightweight coverage that still hides my dark circles. Though, this concealer does require setting to avoid creasing, settling, and fading.
But, when I’m wanting something a bit heavier in coverage I go for something like Make Up For Ever Ultra HD. I love that this concealer doesn’t need to be set, even for it to last 10+ hours. A little bit goes a long way with this formula and it covers even the most pesky dark circles easily. I will say, the formula can set quickly and I recommend working one way at a time. It isn’t fully free of creasing and settling, but, when it does, it’s very minimal. I truly think this is the best proclaimed self setting concealer out there.

Milabu Beauty Method: How to avoid heaviness.
With this Ultra HD Concealer, it’s best to work one eye at a time. Pick an eye and start there.
- Using the doe foot applicator, dot a couple dots under your eye. I usually do one by my inner corner and then outer corner. A little goes a long way with this concealer and you can always add more!
- If you’re wanting a more natural look, blend out using a damp Beautyblender ($20). For max coverage, I like to use a brush (I love this one from Rare Beauty ($16).
- Since this concealer does feature a self setting property, you don’t have to layer a powder on top. But, when I do, I choose something lightweight like Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder ($39).
