MakeUp ForEver Matte Velvet Skin Concealer Review
Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin is a waterproof concealer that packs a punch with its full coverage wear. Best suited for those with oily, normal, and combination skin, it can look heavy if too much product is applied.

Matte Velvet Skin Concealer covers pesky imperfections for all day wear.
If you’re looking for a concealer that doesn’t budge even in the heat and humidity, Matte Velvet Skin from Make Up For Ever could be a good choice for you. This formula features incredible full coverage that conceals dark circles, imperfections, and redness, yet has an amazing staying power. We’re talking up to 24 hours of creaseproof, sweat proof, transfer proof, and waterproof wear. If I’m being honest, you probably won’t get a flawless 24 hours of wear, but you will get a solid 10 hours of coverage. My only caveat with this concealer is that it isn’t best for those with dry skin. So let’s review MakeUp ForEver Matte Velvet Skin Concealer.
Promises vs. Performance: Full coverage made easy.
Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin is a waterproof concealer that promises up to 24 hours of creaseless, transfer proof coverage. It claims a blendable formula that features an extra large doe foot applicator with a precision tip perfect for under eyes, spot concealing, and even contouring. As the name suggests, Matte Velvet Skin features a blurring, matte finish. Make Up For Ever promises this concealer won’t flake, cake, fade, or feel heavy on skin.
My Review Thoughts: MakeUp ForEver Matte Velvet Skin Concealer
The first thing to say in the review, MakeUp ForEver Matte Velvet Skin Concealer is a good one – if you don’t have extremely dry skin. The matte formula is creamy and easy to blend, but dries down quickly and can be hard to blend if you don’t do so immediately. It provides full coverage quickly, with a little bit of product going a long way. It can crease if too much product is applied or it isn’t blended in fast enough, making it look and feel heavier. Even with the matte finish, it is still brightening enough for those pesky dark circles, but flawlessly covers imperfections. I find I don’t necessarily have to set this concealer, but a lightweight powder is best to prevent it from looking dry and heavy. And, when I need a concealer that lasts all day even in the heat and humidity, this one does the trick with it’s waterproof, sweat proof formula.
Quick Rating Rundown
How It Compares: If you have dry under eyes, this is not the concealer for you.
While MakeUp ForEver Matte Velvet Skin Concealer provides high coverage that brightens, the formula is not great for those with super dry skin, as already mentioned in the review above. It sets and dries down quickly which can make it look and feel heavy. The formula can crease and settle throughout the day. It is easy to blend, however because it can set quickly it is best to work one eye and area at a time with this concealer. I do enjoy that, even with having a matte finish, it brightens my under eyes.
For those that like more radiant of a concealer, the iconic NARS Radiant Creamy (rated ****4.3) is one of the best. It has a lightweight formula that is resistant to creasing and settling. The formula has more playing time when it comes to blending and is a lot less drying, making it a better choice for drier skin. Though, the coverage is on the lighter side, I still feel like it does a great job at hiding any dark circles and imperfections.

Milabu Beauty Method: For best results, work one at a time.
If you have under eyes that tend to look dry, I recommend prepping with a hydrating eye cream. I love Origins Ginzing ($34).
- Using the doe foot applicator, dot a couple dots under your eye. I usually do one by my inner corner and then outer corner. A little goes a long way with this concealer and you can always add more!
- If you’re wanting a more natural look, blend out using a damp Beautyblender ($20). For max coverage, I like to use a brush (I love this one from Rare Beauty ($16).
- This concealer is long wearing on its own and you don’t have to layer a powder on top. But, when I do, I choose something lightweight like Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder ($39).
