MAC Lipstick is a timeless favorite.
MAC was founded in Toronto, Canada in 1984 and is still a leading worldwide beauty brand. Their lipstick formulas are iconic and have adorned the smiles of some of pop culture’s most visible figures. Madonna was one of the first megastars rocking a fiery red shade of MAC lipstick. Serial red lipstick-wearer Taylor Swift has gotten giddy over the Retro Matte classic, Ruby Woo. Ever heard of her? (The lipstick, I mean.) Chances are that you have.
Not only mattes, the brand makes other sublime formulations. MAC Satin Lipstick is a timeless favorite. This stuff is creamy and comfortable, and it has beautiful, buildable pigment. Like Taylor Swift, it never goes out of style. Just check your Friends reruns, and you’ll probably spot Jennifer Aniston in the satiny shade of Paramount. MAC Satin Lipstick is also recommended by one of today’s most successful makeup artists, Mario Dedivanovic, whose clients include Kim Kardashian, Chrissy Teigan, and Jennifer Lopez.
Promises vs. Performance: MAC Lipstick has creamy, comfortable coverage.
MAC is America’s number one selling lip color brand, according to their website. It has been reported that MAC sells around two lipsticks every second. Sixty million lipsticks in a single year is a lot of market share. So, what does MAC lippie deliver to the masses? MAC Satin Lipstick simply claims to have a “creamy formula,” to feel “soft” and “cushiony,” and to provide buildable, medium to full coverage with a satin finish. When we’re talking longevity, it depends on the finish – but for the Satin finish, MAC promises 8 hours of wear.
I can’t even tell you how many MAC lippies in my collection, but I definitely have more of the Satin/Cremesheen finish than others. (it’s my preferred finish). This lipstick formula glides on easily, giving near full coverage in just one swipe. It doesn’t bleed or feather, nor does it settle into lines. And, the finish is goals, too: soft and flawless, even though my lips tend to be on the drier side. Finally, this lipstick sets nicely and doesn’t fade away for at least a few hours. No reapplication needed until after I eat a meal. At the end of the night, my lips don’t feel dried out either, which is always appreciated.
Quick Rating Rundown
How It Compares: It’s hard to beat a MAC Lipstick.
MAC Cosmetics’ global empire launched on lipstick, and they now offer around 200 lip product varieties. MAC is home to countless industry favorite lipsticks from nude to berry, and everything in between. From everyday to the runway, Instagram to the big screen, MAC is home to artist favorite colors and formulas that are proven performers.
MAC Satin Lipstick is an endlessly wearable formula, available in a wide array of colors. MAC’s website makes it easy to find what you’re looking for, because the shades of their lipsticks are categorized by color family: Berry, Nude, Pink, and Red. In my eyes, MAC is the standard professional grade lipstick, delivering a smoothing, lip enhancing finish and sturdy wear. With MAC you know you’re getting time tested, quality product. Also, for $22, MAC is competitively priced among other professional grade, high performing lipsticks. Perhaps all of this is why, after nearly four decades, they’re selling millions of lipsticks each year. It looks like there’s no end in sight for MAC’s lipstick reign.
MAC Lipstick Dupe
MAC lipsticks are so good that it’s hard to pick a dupe(s) for them. But, we do have good lipstick dupe option, one of the iconic drugstore lipsticks on the market. We are talking about Maybelline Color Sensational Cream Lipstick. These are also very creamy and pigmented. If you have not compared MAC Satin lipsticks to Maybelline cream lipsticks, give it a try and let us know what you think.
Milabu Beauty Method: 3 steps to a fuller looking pout with MAC.
Here are the steps I take when applying MAC Satin Lipstick to enhance the fullness of my lips.
- Line your lips. Try the overline trend that’s recently been resurrected from the 90s. To find the right placement for your liner, draw your line so that it is slightly outside your natural lip border. I just like to just “cheat” line, not to create a whole new lip shape. My favorite liner for this is Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat Lip Liner ($24).
- Apply your lipstick. MAC Satin applies well straight from the bullet. You’ll get precision. But the rich texture will glide over your top and bottom lips with ease. Two coats is goals. Set the product by smushing your lips together, but not too hard.
- Highlight. Dab a dot of gloss onto just the middle of your bottom lip. Also, a touch of highlighter onto your Cupid’s bow. Here, resist the urge to smush.
Tip: Make sure your liner tip is nice and sharp for a precise line. If your formula is extra creamy, pop your liner pencil in the freezer for five minutes to stiffen it up for sharpening.
