Our Rating Criteria

This Allure Best of Beauty 2021 winner impressed me.

I can’t deny, Allure is typically pretty on point with their Best of Beauty winners. I love checking out the list every year to discover new products I may have missed. One of these products I was super excited to try out was LYS Beauty’s Triple Fix Serum Foundation. I’ve tried serum foundations in the past that just weren’t it (looking at you, ILIA True Skin), but I am always intrigued by them. The combination of skincare and coverage benefits is right up my alley. Plus, the lightweight wear? I’m down for that. I’m happy to report I was pleasantly surprised with LYS Triple Fix. Here’s why this foundation has become part of my rotation.

Promises vs. Performance: A $22 foundation with skincare benefits.

LYS Beauty claims this foundation is sure to become “your skin’s best friend” thanks to its customizable coverage and skincare benefits. Featuring a buildable, light to medium coverage, Triple Fix promises to effortlessly conceal blemishes, dark spots, and imperfections while minimizing pores and fine lines. It is said to be a breathable formula with a natural, skin-like finish.

Now let’s chat about the skincare benefits. Triple Fix contains several nourishing ingredients, to include: ashwagandha to combat stress and signs of aging; hyaluronic acid to boost hydration; turmeric provides antioxidant protection; and avocado oil helps retain moisture for the appearance of a firmer looking complexion. This clean foundation is best suitable for normal, dry, and combination skin types, but those with oily skin can still enjoy the benefits by adding a powder on top.

The application and wear is stunning.

With just one pump, I get more than enough foundation to give my entire face a light-medium coverage. I like to apply Triple Fix with a damp beauty sponge and love how easily and seamlessly it blends. It gives me a really beautiful light-medium coverage that makes my skin look super even. The foundation doesn’t look heavy or cakey on my skin and feels super lightweight. All other products I apply on top go on smoothly without disrupting the foundation underneath.

Throughout the day, the wear of Triple Fix is very even and I love the way my complexion looks. I only get a bit of creasing and accentuated texture around my smile lines. I have normal to combination skin and if it is hot and muggy outside my t-zone can get extra oily throughout the day if I don’t touch up. LYS Triple Fix Serum foundation can get extra oily around my t-zone if I don’t re-touch my skin with either a blotting sheet, a setting powder or a setting spray throughout the day. Overall, this LYS foundation really impresses me and I’m excited to have it in my collection!

Our Rating Criteria

How It Compares: A good alternative for heavy makeup days.

Now, there’s no secret that Estée Lauder Double Wear (rated *****4.6), which is an industry standard, provides higher coverage and a better long wear. However, there are a few similarities between these two. Both foundations blend out really easily and seamlessly melt into skin for a skin-like finish. They both have great shade ranges and look beautiful on the skin. Neither gives me creasing or cracking. I think these are two foundations that are good for two different occasions: Double Wear for a complexion you can apply and not worry about all day; Triple Fix for those lighter days where you still want a flawless base. I really do enjoy both of these face bases.

Serum foundation showdown.

I want to compare this serum foundation to another one too: ILIA True Skin Serum Foundation (rated **** 4.0). The formulas are similar, a hybrid skincare and foundation formula. They are both lightweight and provide similar coverage, but perform differently. ILIA True Skin never gave me that skin-like look a serum foundation should. Instead, it just sat on top of my skin, made my skin look dry by the end of the day, and the longevity just wasn’t there. But with LYS Triple Fix, I got more longevity, my skin didn’t look dry, and it actually melted into my skin for a seamless finish. If you’re between the two of these, I’d definitely go with the LYS foundation. Bonus: it’s half the price ($22 vs $54) of the ILIA!

Milabu Beauty Method: Achieve a flawless complexion with the help of LYS Triple Fix Serum Foundation.

  1. Begin with a primer. I really like Milk Makeup Hydro Grip ($36) because it is blurring, gripping, and hydrating.
  2. Dispense 1 pump on the back of your hand. Trust me, this is all you need for a light coverage!
  3. Dot the foundation across your face, concentrating more product where you want more coverage (for me, this is my cheeks).
  4. Taking a dampened Beautyblender ($20), blend out the foundation.
  5. Layer more foundation to build up the coverage if desired.
  6. If your skin leans more oily or you want more of a matte finish, finish off with a loose powder. Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Finish ($45) is one of my favorites for airbrushed skin.
