Loreal SteamPod Flat Iron might be the only one of its kind that works.
There are many steam irons that have come out during the years. Most of these steam irons are completely unusable to say the least. I’ve tried some in the pats that just are just plain bad, from the design to the results. However, when L’Oreal came out with their SteamPod Straightener, they have finally proved that steam technology actually works and can be safe for hair. Did this steam hair straightener convert me from my beloved traditional flat irons?
Quick Rating Rundown
Promises vs. Performance: Loreal SteamPod Flat Iron is the best steam hair straightener.
Loreal SteamPod Flat Iron is an innovative multi-purpose hair straightener and curling iron. The hair tool uses unique steam technology paired with a comb to style hair. It uses exclusive, continuous steam delivery at 0.8g/min to style hair 2x smoother, 2x faster, and with up to 91% less breakage (Compared to Steampod without steam and removable comb – heating plates only). It has a continuous stream flow for even results on all hair types. SteamPod has the flexibility to style a whole head of hair (up to 600ft of hair!) without having to refill the water tank.
Tip: L’Oreal says the thinner the section of hair, the more precise results.
My personal thoughts on Loreal SteamPod Flat Iron.
Let’s just say my first impression when using Loreal SteamPod was that I was overall impressed! In just one pass, the flat iron straightened hair really well in just one-pass, giving sleek, even results. I was shocked that my hair didn’t feel wet with the steam feature. The removable comb is also a phenomenal addition to the tool, allowing you to comb through hair as you straighten for more consistent results – and you don’t have to use a hair brush to your hair straight! I will say, you have to go a little slower with the SteamPod than you would with a traditional hair straightener so that the steam has time to work its magic.
I will say, you can’t get super close to the roots with Loreal SteamPod, nor is it very versatile. The plates don’t go all the way to the edge, which makes it hard to use this flat iron to wave/curl hair. You can get some bend, but it’s not your typical flat iron waves or curls. And, because of this and the bulkier design, you can get some kinks in your hair towards the roots when straightening.
The good news is is there’s finally a steam hair straightener on the market that works without leaving hair feeling wet or being messy to use. Despite the water reservoir being on the smaller side, it actually lasts through styling a full head of hair without needing to be refilled. L’Oreal seems to have perfected the amount of water needed to steam and style hair!
How it Compares: If you’re considering a steam hair straightener, Loreal SteamPod Flat Iron is the best option.
Loreal Steampod brings something to the market that no other hair tool can do. Using steam, the tool softens and preps the hair before it straightens it in one step. All the other tools rely on heat alone to style hair, and using a lot of heat introduces the risk of damaging hair. Steampod can deliver the same amount of heat to all the hair strands at once, no matter the shape or location. With traditional flat irons, hair strands that are not making direct contact with the plates will not get as much heat, therefore requiring multiple passes to style and shape hair. Loreal Steampod fixes this issue.
However, if you have very curl hair you may find it easier to manage with the use of a separate hair brush. The attachable hair comb does help a lot, but there are cases where you will need that extra help.
There are other hair brands that took a different philosophy how to go around the issue of hair not making contact with the plates. First, we have Dyson Corrale that decided to manage the hair with flex plates. Next, we have Bio Ionic 10x, which introduces even heat distribution properties by using vibrating plates. Lastly, we have a basic heated brush, TYMO RING, that is the best option when it come to managing any type of hair. All of these have their plusses and minuses. Let’s go thought these options more in-depth.
