Skin tints are the new biggest thing, will L’Oreal Hyaluronic Tinted Serum hold its own?
L’Oreal Hyaluronic Tinted Serum went viral and sold out on almost every site shortly after its launch in 2021. Naturally, I was curious and had to put it to the test. Much to my surprise, it lived up to its hype and quickly became one of my favorites. But we are past 2021 and other brands have joined in on the fun. Can L’oreal Skin Tint stay at the top after full set of tests and wear time.
What is a Skin Tint
Move aside full coverage foundations, and embrace the world of lightweight alternatives. Skin tints have become a sensation in the beauty community, delivering a delicate, almost imperceptible makeup appearance. What makes them truly special is their ability to offer more than mere coverage. In fact, skin tints often come enriched with added skincare benefits, making them highly sought-after by those who prefer a minimalist approach to beauty.
Now, let’s explore what precisely defines a skin tint. You may already be acquainted with terms such as “tinted moisturizer,” “BB cream,” and “CC cream,” all of which fall under the broad category of skin tints. From our perspective, a skin tint refers to a facial base that provides sheer to medium coverage, effortlessly disguising imperfections, evening out the skin tone, and imparting a sensation of wearing nothing at all. Typically, these products offer a shorter wear time, typically lasting around 6-8 hours.
Promises vs. Performance: L’Oreal Hyaluronic Tinted Serum surprised me.
L’Oreal Hyaluronic Tinted Serum is actually the first skin tint to contain 1% hyaluronic acid, fusing makeup and skincare for better skin with each wear. Brighter, more even, and hydrated skin is this face base’s claim to fame. With each wear, skin will feel more hydrated and smooth over time. This tinted serum has sheer to light coverage with a natural, radiant finish thanks to luminous mineral pigments.
You’ll want to start by shaking L’Oreal Skin Tint to make sure the formula is mixed together since it can separate in the bottle. Using the dropper, I place a few drops across my face (making sure not to touch the dropper to my skin to keep it sanitary!). My favorite way to apply this skin tint is actually with a damp sponge. It doesn’t soak up too much product and it blends into the skin flawlessly. A brush or fingers work well, too!
Despite the formula looking incredibly luminous in the bottle, it doesn’t look too radiant on the skin. I find it is closer to a natural soft matte finish with a skin-like glow. Its lightweight enough that any glow from skincare below can peek through, and it will almost mimic what you wear under it. This face base wears comfortable for a full day, but the sweet spot of best wear is 4-6 hours. After this, it can start to settle, wear off, and look worn, especially around the nose and mouth area. But, it doesn’t contribute to excess oiliness, nor does it accentuate dry spots, texture, or other imperfections.

How It Compares: One of the best skin tint launches of 2021.
I was so, so surprised by how much I enjoyed this product the first time I tested it. It’s a beautiful skin tint, giving the most natural sheer to light coverage for everyday wear. Of course, skin tints don’t give the longest wear, but it’s wear has minimal settling, fading, and creasing. I love how natural it looks on the skin and that it doesn’t accentuate any skin imperfections I’m dealing with, from texture to dryness to acne. Something I do want to mention is the color range. L’Oreal Hyaluronic Tinted Serum only comes in 14 shades, but each color spans a few shades. For example, I have the color Very Light, which is shade 0.5-2. That being said, I do think the shades are flexible and it should work for most skin tones.
Let me be honest, I love skin tints and can’t get enough of them. Check out the Milabu team’s list of the Best Skin Tints for all of our favorites, including classics like the IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream and Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, plus other coveted formulas from brands like caliray, Saie, and ILIA.
Comparison To Top Skin Tints
Maybelline Super Stay Skin Tint
Based on its ratings, Maybelline Super Stay Skin Tint may just be the best at the drugstore. The application is foolproof. It gives light to medium coverage while remaining weightless and skin-like. The finish can be described as natural, healthy radiance. It blurs pores, smooths lines, and doesn’t accentuate any texture on skin. And, finally, it has one of the best skin tint longevities I’ve come across. What can be improved? It’s packaging does get dirty easily, and the shade undertones could be a bit better. But, overall, the Maybelline skin tint holds its own as a top performer.
