Why Laura Mercier Powder Dupe is a BIG ASK
World famous makeup artist Laura Mercier launched her iconic cosmetics line back in 1996. Impressively, ‘Laura Mercier translucent setting powder’ is the best selling, and still arguably the best loved, loose setting powder on the market. This product has been in my makeup bag for years, and most beauty lovers are familiar with. Its reputation as a makeup artist favorite echoes though the beauty industry because it locks base products into place and photographs beautifully.
Quick Rating Rundown Chart
But, it’s not just for the red carpet or Vogue cover shoots, brides everywhere include Laura Mercier Setting Powder in their wedding makeup looks to ensure sweat-proof, tear stain proof makeup looks. Others use it just for special occasions while plenty of us reach for it daily, lightly dusting it onto certain parts of our faces to set concealer and foundation or to take down shine. The fanfare around the Laura Mercier setting powder is not new. Sometimes, I just want to celebrate the classics – after all, they’re icons for a reason, right?
Did we find compatible products?
That being said, one could see why Laura Mercier Powder Dupe may not exist. But, we have tested many translucent powders and found some makeup powder products that, we dare to say, are better than the iconic powder. As well, we have found a great Laura Mercier setting powder dupe. Check out the chart below for a quick look.

Promises vs. Performance: No caking? No flashback? No problem.
So, what does Laura Mercier actually promise Translucent Loose Setting Powder to do? This makeup powder is said to provide an “instant blurring effect,” along with 16-hour wear, a soft focus finish, and no flashback. Although suited to all skin types, the product is specifically said to be “the best setting powder for oily skin,” with a soft matte finish that controls oil and shine all day. This product also claims to give the look of smoother skin, thanks to its fine texture that doesn’t settle into crevices or cake onto texture. The formula also claims to be breathable, for a lightweight comfortable feel on the skin.
I’ve got to say – Laura Mercier setting powder is a gem.
As a longtime fan, I know what to expect when I dust Laura Mercier setting powder onto my face. Unlike some translucent powders that appear stark white in the container and on the face, this lightly pigmented powder looks colorless (it’s closer to an ivory color than white) and natural upon application. I do appreciate that there are 3 versions available: Translucent, Translucent Honey, and Translucent Deep, meaning all skin tones can use this wonderful setting powder.
With minimal product used, my makeup is set with a softly blurred and natural finish. I tend to concentrate powder under my eyes and in my t-zone, where I get most oily and experience the most creasing. My face doesn’t feel the slightest bit dry or cakey when I wear this powder. It still allows the finish of any product underneath to shine through and doesn’t completely mattify luminous products, which I love. Nothing feels heavy and, I’m happy to report, my makeup lasts all day.
How It Compares: Laura Mercier setting powder finally has some competition and dupes
Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder is the standard product of its kind. You’ll probably never meet a makeup artist without it in their case, as they use it for everything from locking foundation and concealer to priming eyelids to setting lipstick. For the many years since its release, there was nothing that could compete with Laura Mercier powder as the best choice for a setter in the beauty world. And here is why.
This cult classic product will extend your makeup wear time for hours without weighing you down. This is the quality that still can’t be beat by any competitor, and something for the dupes to consider. It won’t transfer, crack, settle, or cake. And if you’re worried about photography flashback, don’t. The unique soft-matte, translucent formulation ensures that this won’t happen – must-have product when taking pictures or have a special event to attend. Your skin will look smooth and airbrushed, just like you want it!
Who are the Competitors?
Let’s get to the interesting part. Are there any great competitors and/or Laura Mercier powder dupes. The short answer is YES. First we have one of the newest product to the market Haus Labs Bio-Blurring Powder. It’s aiming at the gold. Next, We have an outstanding clean option by ILIA, their Soft Focus Finishing Powder. And finally, we have a great value price option, Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder. You just can’t beat their price.

Comparison to TOP Performers
Best Performance Powder…
When everything is considered Laura Mercier translucent powder sits in a comfortable situation. Even more so, when looking at the performance rating, Laura Mercier loose setting powder stands as top tier, being rated at 4.9 starts. Very few makeup products can achieve that. But I think we found some cosmetics products that will challenge and surpass Laura Mercier setting powder. HAUS LABS Bio-Blurring Setting Powder recently came out with a phenomenal makeup product that surpasses in performance and uses cleaner ingredients. The only drawback, it is pricey because you do not get much in the container.
When we thought no one could do better at blurring than Laura Mercier, Haus Labs proved everyone wrong. It’s like it’s your skin but at its finest type of results. The only thing it did not take away from Laura Mercier is longevity. Laura Mercier proved to be a work horse.
Clean Option…
We do want to mention a clean option that delivers as well, ILIA Soft Focus Finishing Powder. This clean brand delivers the good powder, which is great for those with sensitive skin. Check out the one-to-one rating below and see how these products compare when it comes to performance.
Best Laura Mercier powder Dupe…
You there are only two products that can be considered as great dupes for Laura Mercier Translucent powder. First we have e.l.f. Halo Glow Powder, but it’s very price for the amount that you get. It’s only a few dollars cheaper than Laura Mercier powder, when considering the amount of product that you get. This is hardly a good dupe.
Second, we have Maybelline FIT me Finishing Powder. Now, you may not get that super blurring flawless looking skin like Haus Labs powder does. But, you will still be impressed how well it looks on the skin. It will definitely get you ready for those photos. It may not be a long hours work horse like Laura Mercier, but it will get you through your workday without any issues. And the price, it is outstanding. This is the perfect Laura Mercier powder Dupe.
Milabu Beauty Method: How to Apply Laura Mercier Setting Powder
- To set your complexion, dust a light layer of Translucent Powder over your makeup look using a fluffy brush. You’ll be locked and ready for a day of wear.
- If you’re into baking, you can even do that with this powder. I like the “light-bake” method. I use my BeautyBlender Pocket Puff ($15) to pack in powder under my eyes, on my cheeks, and my smile lines. Hello, airbrushed finish!
- If you have a matte lip look that you want to set, lightly place a tissue over it and gently dust this powder on top. Your pout won’t budge.
