Our Rating Criteria

What Makes a Great Powder Foundation?

A stellar powder foundation should encompass several vital attributes:

  • Easy Application: It should glide effortlessly onto the skin, providing a seamless finish without caking or settling into lines and pores.
  • Buildable Coverage: A versatile foundation allows you to choose your desired level of coverage, from sheer to medium, without feeling heavy or cakey.
  • Longevity: It should hold its own throughout the day, ideally lasting for at least eight hours without requiring constant touch-ups.
  • Oil Control: An exceptional powder foundation helps control excess oils, ensuring a matte and fresh appearance.

Product Highlights

Laura Geller takes pride in her iconic Baked Balance-n-Brighten Foundation. This weightless formula is baked for a remarkable 24 hours and then carefully hand-finished in Italy. It boasts the ease of powder application while offering the benefits of a cream foundation. With color-correcting swirls of pigments, it aims to simplify the often tricky task of shade matching. Moreover, Laura Geller proudly supports the National Rosacea Society and was the first foundation to earn a seal of approval from the National Psoriasis Foundation.

My Review Thoughts on Laura Geller Foundation

Pros:

  • Lightweight on the Skin: The foundation’s weightless feel is a definite plus, offering a breathable and comfortable wear.
  • Breathable: It allows your skin to breathe, preventing that suffocating feeling often associated with heavier foundations.
  • Blurs Imperfections: It does a decent job of blurring imperfections, leaving behind a smooth and even canvas.
  • Smooth Finish: The creamy texture aids in achieving a smooth and natural finish, which is a coveted trait in foundations.

Cons:

  • Lack of Shade Range: One noticeable drawback is the limited shade range, making it challenging to find the perfect match.
  • Oxidizes: Just like in my experience, some users have reported issues with oxidation, which means the foundation may change color after application.
  • Limited Coverage: Despite claims of offering medium coverage, it tends to provide sheer to light coverage, which might disappoint if you are seeking more concealing power.
  • Not Long-Wearing Without a Primer: The foundation’s longevity falls short of expectations, particularly without the assistance of a primer. It may require touch-ups throughout the day. Using a setting powder is also suggested to extend longevity of this foundation – see how.

Makeup Application: Before anf After

Laura Geller Foundation Application
Laura Geller Foundation Application: Before and After

Laura Geller Powder Foundation provided an outstanding finish during review. However, like mentioned above, the finish does not stay there very long. Constant touch up are needed. However, I love the lightweight and breathable feel. The skin does not feel tight or dry – this is a big PLUS.

It does a decent job at blurring imperfections and leaving a smooth looking natural finish. It does not exaggerate imperfections, fine lines, and pores. Though, it will not cover up dark blemishes. Also, It does not build well. It will will start looking heavy without proving more coverage. Overall, this is great for those who have even looking skin without too many blemishes. If you need coverage, I would skip this one.

Further, it will look good on mature skin because it does not settle or crack (relatively speaking). However, again, constant touch up are needed, or using a primer (gripping, blurring…) for your skin condition is advisable. Without a really good gripping primer foundation disintegrated by the end of the day. However, it did it without revealing it too much. It kinda goes through a smooth transition. See the video above for more clarity.

Let’s Review How It Compares: The Laura Geller Foundation reviews made it sound better than it is.

Laura Geller vs Makeup Forever Powder Foundation

In the realm of powder foundations, Laura Geller Baked Balance-n-Brighten has its merits, but it’s not without its flaws. While it’s praised for its lightweight and breathable feel, as well as its ability to blur imperfections, it falls short in the longevity department. The limited shade range and occasional issue with oxidation are additional drawbacks. Despite claims of medium coverage, it tends to offer sheer to light coverage. There are certainly better options available, such as the Make Up For Ever HD Skin or Shiseido Synchro Skin foundations. When it comes to achieving a flawless finish, Laura Geller Baked Balance-n-Brighten foundation may not be your best bet.

To gauge the true worth of Laura Geller Baked Balance-n-Brighten Foundation, it’s essential to compare it to some of its competitors:

  1. Make Up For Ever HD Skin: Known for its impeccable finish and long-lasting wear, this foundation is a favorite among makeup enthusiasts. It offers buildable coverage and keeps shine at bay.
  2. Shiseido Synchro Skin: Renowned for its natural finish, this foundation provides excellent coverage that’s easy to build. It’s also formulated to last throughout the day.

The one point where Geller Foundation may have an advantage, its finish and flaws may not be as visible since it’s a light coverage. This is where I could see reviews being positive for Laura Geller foundation. Since it is geared somewhat for mature skin – the fine lines and texture may not be exaggerated with this powder (it’s light coverage). However, in my humble opinion, if we are going to take that route, Skin Tints might be better suited for the situation. Skin Tints also have a lot more skin benefits as well. That being said, check out this article on best skin tints.

Laura Geller Foundation Dupes

Is there a drugstore foundation similar to Laura Geller? IMO Yes. I believe L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Powder is a great dupe for Laura Geller foundation. L’oreal can look a bit more heavy on the skin. However it also provides more coverage. I think the same comments stand from before, it’s less detectable on the skin because it provides light coverage. Otherwise these are very similar products when it come down to performance, both lack in longevity and do not provide any skincare benefits that are expected now a days.

Now if you are looking for skincare benefits the top contender is BareMinerals The Original powder foundation (and Shiseido Synchro Skin that is mentioned above). Check out the following article comparing Laura Geller vs BareMinerals.
