L’ange Le Duo is small, but mighty.
So many hair tools… which to buy?! Lucky for you, we test nearly all of them here at Milabu Co. to tell you what you should and shouldn’t spend your money on. One that has been talked about on social media for some time now is the L’ange Le Duo, an airflow styler that straightens and curls hair, locking it in place with its 360° airflow.
On first glance, the tool is small for the price. Personally, I was most intrigued by the airflow vents it has to cool hair while styling. Will it perform like it says, especially on my shoulder length hair? Let’s find out.
Promises vs. Performance: Are the air vents necessary?
L’ange Le Duo is a lightweight, ergonomic styler that curls and straightens hair. What sets its apart is its easy-to-use clip that holds hair in place (no holding a clamp required!) and tiny air vents that instantly cool and lock your style in place. It features an adjustable temp of 280°F – 430°F and titanium plates with rounded edges to make styling easier. Le Duo comes in two sizes: original (best suited for shoulder length or shorter hair) and Le Duo Grande (best suited for those with longer hair).
How To Use L’angle Le duo
The L’ange is not a hair dryer and styler combo, so you’ll want to start with completely dry, detangled hair with heat protectant. Once Le Duo is heated up and ready to use, the fan will turn on signaling it’s ready to use (you can also press a button to turn the fan off and style without it).
To straighten use Le Duo like a typical flat iron. Squeeze the clip to open the plates, guide a 1″ section of hair into the plates, and glide down hair, keeping the tool parallel to the floor.
To curl, you can use Le duo pointed up or down – personal preference! Start by squeezing the clip to open the plates and guide a 1″ section of hair toward the bottom of the plates, beginning close to the roots of your hair. Twist the tool in your desired direction (towards or away from the face) while sliding down your hair. The more you twist, the more defined you’ll get!
My personal thoughts.
When I first was served a Facebook AD for the L’ange Le Duo, I was intrigued – mostly by the fan element! Of course, I had to pick it up and put it to the test to see if it would wok at all. And, to my surprise, it does a decent job at both straightening and curling hair! However, there are some cons to this hair tool. Starting with the size: this hair tool is tiny. L’ange does recommend the original size for shorter length hair and I can see why. The plates don’t open very wide and you don’t get a lot of surface area contact of the plates and hair. In addition, the tool also feels cheaply made. For the price, it doesn’t have much weight to it and doesn’t feel like an over $100 hair tool. But, there are some positives as well!
I’m pretty pleased with the one pass straightening results. For as small of plates as this flat iron has, it does a relatively good job! I do have to go over some areas a second time, but at least it’s not my whole head needing two passes! In terms of curling, it pretty easily creates curls that consistently look good The clip really helps make it easier to use since it holds the hair in place for you. Both the clip and plates are smooth and don’t snag or tug on hair.
Who is this tool for?
I can see this being a good option for someone who isn’t curling iron savvy, or someone who wants to be able to easily create flat iron waves or curls. The clip really does the heavy lifting, allowing you to focus on the twisting to create beautiful curls or waves. And not only can you curl/wave hair, but you can also straighten it. It’d be a great tool to travel with thanks to its size!
Quick Rating Rundown
How It Compares: L’angle Le Duo is not a necessary tool, but it does have its benefits.
As someone who is super savvy with both curling irons and flat irons, I don’t see the need for this hair tool in my collection. But, we can give L’ange Flat Iron some props for innovation because of the clip and airflow technology. Though I don’t see the fan being necessary, I do love how easy the clip makes it to style hair. It really does the hard work for you, allowing you to focus on styling rather than clamping down on hair too. I will say, the value of this tool just isn’t there, especially if you already have both a flat iron and curling iron in your collection. This is the kind of tool I’d recommend to someone who may be just starting out with styling, getting the hang of curling/waving, or needs a tool for travel (it’s dual voltage, too!). For me personally, it isn’t one I’m going to reach for that often.
If you’re looking for the ultimate hair tool, the safest hair tool, and the most versatile hair tool, I recommend the Dyson Airwrap. It dries hair, smooths flyaways, creates the perfect blowout, and curls hair. The curling barrels are also semi-automatic, using something called Coanda Technology to attract hair, safely wrapping it around the barrels. Plus, it doesn’t use damaging heat. A quick word on price categories. First, we have the drugstore category. There is a big spectrum of tools, from low to high quality and design in this category. We can have a very simple $20 Revlon tool to a higher end tools like Kristin Ess or L’ange flat irons. Above drugstore category there are the pro-grade type of tools, like Bio Ionic, T3, GHD… These brands create some of the best hair tools on the market using some of the most reliable technology available. The final and highest price category is luxury, where new technology is created and design is pushed to its limits. Dyson rules this category.
The best L’ange Le Duo Flat Iron alternatives.
There are many great flat irons on the market and I have tested several. Starting with my #1 hair straightener: Bio Ionic 10X. This luxury flat iron is my favorite for fast, one pass styling. Its vibrating plates make it a true one pass flat iron. If I’m on a time crunch, I know I can count on this one to deliver excellent results fast. This is a great option for professionals: providing great results, true one-pass flat iron, very smooth, high heat option, long cord. See Flat Iron in Action ▶️
If you are looking for the best drugstore straightener overall, look no further than Kristin Ess Titanium Flat Iron. Kristin Ess and L’ange both create top tier drugstore hair tools like the above flat irons, and are direct competitors to each other. Both feature titanium plates, smooth results, ergonomic designs, and create great waves in your hair. The only difference is the price. Kristin Ess is much more sensible on your pocket and can be found in retailers like Target and Ulta. This is the major reason why I would recommend Kristin Ess over L’ange.
The best drugstore flat iron.
For the best value flat iron, I would take a look at the Conair Infiniti Pro flat iron. It might not have a sleek design and great controls, but it does come with titanium plates that performs very well and don’t snag the hair. If you are looking to save some money this would be a great option.
Conair Infiniti Pro Titanium Flat Iron is a great dupe for any titanium type of flat iron. It’s a no nonsense type of flat iron that provides great results. They put all their money into the higher end heating material and omitted all the fancy digital controls and sleek design. It’s a bit rough around the edges, for instance the hair could get stuck in the crevices of this tool. That being said, I love the performance of this tool for the price. This is a great dupe for L’ange Le duo flat iron.
