Is Ethereal Light better than the OG Too Faced Born This Way Concealer?
Too Faced gives me all the nostalgic vibes and is home to many cult-favorite products (who hasn’t tried Better Than Sex Mascara? Spoiler alert – it’s not better!). But, they do have some bomb complexion products. The original Born This Way Concealer provides full coverage that lasts all day for a perfectly concealed complexion. But, the Ethereal Light version is their entry into the clean girl makeup aesthetic. The Ethereal Light version of Too Faced Born This Way Concealer promises lightweight, brightened coverage while still lasting all day. Now, let’s see how it does.
Promises vs. Performance: Hydrating and 24 hours of flawless wear?
Ethereal Light Born This Way Concealer claims 24 hours of creaseproof, waterproof coverage. Too Faced calls this concealer a “buttery serum” that glides on effortlessly. The formula is infused with a blend of plumping and hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe leaf extract, daikon seed extract, and squalane, plus Too Faced’s typical coconut water and alpine rose. It promises to diminish signs of fatigue while delivering immediate and all day moisture, brighten complexion, and cover imperfections.
I must say, the application of Too Faced Born This Way Ethereal Light is rather delightful. It instantly brightens under eyes and conceals dark circled for a wide awake look. It has the buttery texture Too Faced describes and effortlessly blends in with the fingers or a brush. I find this concealer to be more of a light to medium coverage. It gives a natural look from the coverage to the finish and texture.
What I will say is this concealer doesn’t wear as well as I hoped it would. While it does give a beautiful brightening effect and kept everything concealed all day, it does have some flaws. It resists creasing and settling while wearing for a solid 6-8 hours, but there’s just something missing. It doesn’t give me that same wow factor after a full day of wear like Kosas Revealer or Huda #FauxFilter does. I think this is a great concealer for someone who wants natural coverage with mega brightness.

How It Compares: Is it better than the iconic NARS?
I gotta give Too Faced props – this is the perfect way to dip toes into the clean girl makeup aesthetic. Born This Way Ethereal Light is a brightening concealer with lighter coverage. And when they say brightening, they mean it. Ethereal Light is very radiant and luminous, but does conceal dark circles pretty effortlessly. Too Faced claims a creaseproof, 24 hour wear and I’d agree. Somehow this concealer sets in place without a powder and stays well. But, there is something missing with this concealer. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s like a NARS Radiant Creamy 2.0 or not, but it isn’t replacing my holy grails.
There’s still just something about the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (rated ****4.3) that keeps it at the top as an industry standard. It’s been around for years and has claimed icon status. It provides radiance and lightweight coverage that never feels heavy or cakey. Radiant Creamy Concealer is one that never lets me down and works for so many different skin types. For more coverage, look to Kosas Revealer (rated ****4.2), a hydrating concealer with a built in eye cream.
