ILIA Lipstick Review

Review: ILIA Color Block Lipstick is vegan, keeps lips nourished, and provides high impact color. Its only downfall is it’s not a long wearing lipstick.

ILIA Lipstick is a clean, comfortable formula.

We’re all looking for that perfect, every day lipstick that’s long wearing, pigmented, and doesn’t dry out our lips. Luckily, those that provide treatment and are high performing are getting increasingly popular in the beauty industry. I recently tried out ILIA Color Block to see if it could fit the bill. It sounds really promising on paper, but does it live up to those promises? Let’s jump into ILIA Lipstick Review.

Promises vs. Performance: Is it really hydrating and long lasting?

ILIA Color Block Lipstick claims to be hydrating, long wearing, and full coverage, according to ILIA’s website. This vegan lipstick is supposed to help keep lips soft and plump even after hours of wear time. The formula includes ingredients such as castor oil, apricot seed oil, and mango seed butter, which work together to soften, hydrate, nourish, and plump the lips. It’s also gluten free and cruelty free.

My Review Thoughts: ILIA Lipstick

I want to start the review by stating how much I love the colors of ILIA lipstick! I have a few in my collection, but mixing Rosette and Marsala is my favorite way to wear the ILIA lipstick. Right off the bat, the formula is highly pigmented, creamy, and has a nice smell. The lipstick itself wears fairly well throughout the day, though I do have to reapply after eating. I wasn’t really surprised by this, as the hydration factor made me think I’d have to reapply it. But, what did surprise me, is that they can accentuate the fine lines on your lips and look dry. I’d recommend prepping lips with a gentle exfoliation and a hydrating balm before applying – this is the way I always ensure my lips feel happy after a day of wearing lipstick.

Let’s Review How It Compares: ILIA vs MAC Lipstick

The advantage I can give in the review to ILIA Color Block Lipstick over others is that it is a clean and vegan formula, if that is something you are looking for. While the ILIA Lipstick does provide high impact pigment, the lip color doesn’t last more than 4-6 hours, and has to be reapplied after eating. It has a nondrying texture, but be aware that it can accentuate fine lines in lips. All in all, this is a great lipstick for those looking for a cleaner formula.

Comparison To Top Lipsticks

There are several hydrating lipsticks I love in the luxury beauty category. The iconic Chanel Rouge Coco Flash is one of my favorites, along with MERIT Signature Lip. Both of these offer great pigment for the type of lippie they are, along with an excellent feel and finish on the lips. They don’t dry out the lips or accentuate any sort of imperfections like dryness or fine lines. Of course, these aren’t your 8+ hour, no budge, transfer proof wear. For a formula in that realm, I recommend NARS Power Matte or a liquid lipstick like Dior Transfer Proof.

Let’s face it: MAC Cosmetics makes some of the best lipsticks of all time. There are hundreds of different colors, and those little black tubes are iconic for a reason. MAC Cosmetics Lipstick retails for less than ILIA Color Block ($22 versus $28) and performs way better. MAC doesn’t dry out my lips. It’s comfortable to wear, and just can’t be beat. It’s no wonder it’s the product that made MAC famous.
