Huda Beauty foundation truly is a #FauxFilter for the face.
When Huda Beauty promises performance, they deliver. I mean, have you seen the Rose Quartz eyeshadow palette? So beautiful! Of course, I had to test out the reformulation of the #FauxFilter foundation. The new formula features the same full coverage and long lasting benefits, but has gotten way more rave reviews. It is said to be more blendable and easier to apply. Huda Beauty increased the wear time to 24 hours, gave the foundation a luminous matte finish, and made it fragrance free. Let’s see how this Huda Beauty foundation wears. I’m excited.
Promises vs. Performance: Can a foundation be both matte and luminous?
Huda Beauty Foundation #FauxFilter has a lot of claims. The full coverage formula features a flexible 24 hour wear and a luminous matte finish. It promises to not be cakey and give instant coverage that “unifies skin tone and texture,” blurring skin for a radiant finish. #FauxFilter is transfer proof, fade proof, sweat proof, and humidity proof. Huda Beauty promises it will never let you down. This full coverage foundation is also fragrance free and noncomedogenic, so it is safe for all skin types – even sensitive.
This is a thick foundation! But, it blends out really nicely with a dense brush or dampened sponge, giving me the immediate full coverage Huda promised. My skin looked really airbrushed after the initial application. The finish was a subtle, lit from within type of glow, as they suggest with the luminous matte name.
I was pleasantly surprised with this foundation, especially given how thick it is. It was surprisingly easy to blend and didn’t look too thick or heavy on the skin. But, it can accentuate dry spots and fine lines. By the end of a full day of wear, I was getting more than usual creasing around my mouth, forehead and my texture was accentuated. I tested #FauxFilter with a primer on one side of my face and nothing underneath on the other side. Neither side had a better performance than the other; I had the same results on both sides. What I like about #FauxFilter is that it has a soft matte finish, it provides full coverage, and a little goes a long way. I think if you don’t mind working with it a bit more and being patient with the application, it is a really beautiful product.
Quick Rating Rundown
How It Compares: Huda Beauty Foundation versus Estée Lauder Double Wear.
I think this Huda Beauty foundation is beautiful. However, you do have to take your time and work with it. It’s not one of those foundations you can just swipe all over carelessly. Instead, the thick formula is one you have to start small with. A little bit goes a long way with #FauxFilter, and I find I barely need one full pump to cover my entire face. Even though the formula is thick, it does blend out very easily with a brush or dampened sponge (personally, I prefer a sponge). What I don’t like about this foundation is that it can accentuate texture and dryness. To avoid this as much as possible, prep skin with a nice hydrating primer and moisturizer. But, what I do like about #FauxFilter is how full coverage it is, the soft matte finish, and that a little product goes a long way.
Is it better than Double Wear?
Estée Lauder Double Wear (rated ***** 4.6) is a cult favorite industry standard that performs time and time again. Its formula is more buildable, and it can provide you with medium to full coverage rather than the immediate full coverage you get with #FauxFilter. Both foundations provide a long wear that is resistant to sweat and humidity. When choosing between these two foundations, it comes down very few differences. Things to consider between these two cosmetic items: do you want a versatile, buildable foundation, or one that is only going to give you the fullest of full coverage.

Milabu Beauty Method: How I like to wear this thick Huda Beauty foundation.
These are my tips and tricks to prevent this foundation from looking heavy and accentuating texture.
- First, prep the skin. I like using a more hydrating, glowy primer with this foundation. One that I have been loving is the RMS “re” Evolve Primer ($40).
- A little bit goes a long way with #FauxFilter! Start by squirting 1 pump on the back of your hand. Dot this across your face.
- My preferred method of application is with a dampened sponge. Since this formula is thicker, I find my Beautyblender ($20) helps blend it out easier for an even coverage.
- This foundation is transfer resistant, but I do find I can get tad shiny throughout the day in my t-zone. I like to set it with a lightweight powder, such as Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish ($45).
Tip: If applying with a brush, I suggest taking a clean beauty sponge to make sure #FauxFilter is really blended in and there is no excess product sitting on top.
