Hourglass Ambient Soft Glow Foundation For A Healthy Skin Look

This is my honest review of Hourglass Ambient Soft Glow Foundation.

What makes a good foundation? There’s a lot that a goes into the ranking of a Milabu Picks foundation, from value to application, coverage and finish, longevity, shade range, and extra benefits. These are the categories that the Milabu Team rates foundation according to so that we can be as unbiased as possible. With so many foundations on the market, there’s bound to be some flops.

A late-2022 launch was the Hourglass Ambient Soft Glow Foundation. This is a buildable medium coverage foundation that a promises 16 hour of wear with a light-reflecting finish. In the beginning, I had mixed feelings about this Hourglass foundation. But, once I leaned how to apply it, I think it’s stunning.

Promises vs. Performance: Hourglass Ambient Lighting meets foundation.

Hourglass Ambient Soft Glow Foundation is inspired by the iconic Ambient Lighting Collection, which illuminates and blurs skin for a light-reflecting finish. Soft Glow Foundation promises 16 hours of wear with a weightless feel. The buildable medium coverage foundation is infused with blurring spheres for a natural, soft glow finish. It claims to blur and minimize the look of imperfections such as pores, fine lines, and wrinkles. In addition, its transfer, heat, humidity, and sweat resistant. You’ll have protection from blue light and free radicals thanks to the inclusion of white tea extract and vitamin E.

When applied with a brush, Hourglass Ambient Soft Glow Foundation can, in my experience, look like its sitting on top of the skin, look heavy, and accentuate texture. This Hourglass foundation is best applied with a damp beauty sponge to help work the product into the skin better. This ensures a more second skin-like look rather than looking like it’s just sitting on top of the skin. Applied like this, I get the natural, soft glow finish Hourglass promises along with the weightless feel. I am happy to report I do get the long wear promised. Though I haven’t tested the full 16 wear claim, I can attest to 8-10 hours of minimal settling, creasing, and patchiness!

I will say, this foundation can be tricky to get the hang of. It requires not only a specific application, but also properly prepped skin. Personally, I find it wears best over hydrated skin (I like to prep mine with Bobbi Brown Enriched Face Base, $66). Though it is donned as a ‘glowy’ foundation, it is long wearing both with and without setting. If setting, use a translucent powder like Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder, $46.

How It Compares: Hourglass Ambient Soft Glow Foundation is a top contender.

You know, even though it wasn’t love at first application with Hourglass Ambient Soft Glow Foundation, I have grown to love it. It provides a beautiful medium to full coverage that blurs imperfections and pores for an airbrushed finish. I find it is best applied with a damp sponge to achieve the most even application. But, I will say, it can start looking heavy pretty fast – a little bit definitely goes a long way with this Hourglass foundation! I especially like this foundation on days my skin is feeling drier and I still want fuller coverage. Think of Hourglass Ambient Soft Glow Foundation as a little sister to the iconic Estée Lauder Double Wear – it has that same thicker, whipped texture, but sits much nicer on drier skin.

For years now, my go-to luxury foundation has been Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk. And, I do still love Luminous Silk! It too is a serum foundation that provides buildable medium coverage with a natural, luminous finish. The Armani foundation works on most skin types and has an all day, 8+ hour wear. Plus, it comes at a bit lower price tag for luxury beauty at $69.
