GUIDE Beauty Lash Wrap has a Popsocket-like mascara wand.
Most all mascara wands are the same – usually a small, rounded handle with some boar bristles or a silicone brush attached. But, this type of mascara wand can pose a problem for some, such as those with unsteady hands or arthritis. I’ve tested a slew of strange mascara applicators, but this one from GUIDE Beauty has to be the most innovative and most useful on a day-to-day basis. Lash Wrap has a ‘Popsocket’ like grip which helps steady the hand for an easier application. Not only was I curious about this applicator, but the formula, too, as it claims to be a tubing formula that volumizes and lengthens.
Promises vs. Performance: Will Lash Wrap Mascara wand aid in an easier application?
GUIDE Beauty Lash Wrap is a tubing mascara that promises volume and length. The tubing formula is a flexible polymer technology that wraps each lash for 360° coverage. These tubes help set and hold curl and make the mascara ideal for sensitive, watery eyes as Lash Wrap promises a smudge-proof wear. Lash Wrap is ophthalmologist, dermatologist, and safety tested with a clean, vegan, and cruelty free formula. But, what really makes this mascara unique is the patent-pending GUIDE Ring which helps steady the hand for a comfortable, mess-free application.
I love the idea and concept behind the GUIDE Beauty brand. The founder, Terri Bryant, spent her career as a a celebrity makeup artist, but at the top of her career she began experiencing a loss of dexterity that ultimately led to a diagnosis with Parkinson’s. Of course, this led to challenges when applying makeup. Because of this, she set out to find a way to still be able to apply makeup. Alongside Selma Blair, current Chief Creative Officer who has Multiple Sclerosis, GUIDE beauty was developed to change the game of beauty and make it more inclusive.
Lash Wrap review.
The most important, and best part, about this mascara is its ergonomic handle design. It has the signature GUIDE Beauty ‘GUIDE RING’ that creates a more comfortable hold that helps steady the hand with application. And it really does steady the hand. I even tested it with my left hand (I’m right-handed) to see if it would be an easy application, and it was! In just one coat, my lashes were defined, separated, and lengthened with intense black pigment. It added natural volume at the base of my lashes. All in all, I was super impressed how this mascara applied and made my lashes look after just one coat. When wearing Lash Wrap, I experience no smudging or transfer with minimal flaking.
But, what I will say, is that the mouthpiece of this mascara tube isn’t the best. It doesn’t scrape off the excess product, leaving you having to wipe the wand, removing the excess, to not have a messy application. If this issue was fixed, this mascara would rate much higher.
Quick Rating Rundown
How It Compares: Lash Wrap Mascara gets an A+ for their innovative mascara wand.
Where GUIDE Beauty Lash Wrap Mascara really shines is the innovative handle design. This is the perfect mascara tube for someone who struggles to hold typical wands. It has a unique Popsocket-like ring that rests between fingers, giving a comfortable grip and easier hold. I’d say it works pretty well – as much as my left-handed application test shows! But, there are some flaws in the formula and packaging design. The mascara itself provides length, subtle volume and definition from the very first coat. However, if you apply it in too heavy of coats it can weigh down lashes. In my opinion, it’s the actual brush itself that is most flawed. Too much excess mascara gets trapped on the brush and I find myself having to wipe it off before every use, after every dip in the tube.
Let’s compare to one of my favorite mascaras of all time: Lancome Lash Idole (rated ****4.5). Idole gives my lashes a false lash look without the falsies and applies beautifully. I love this formula because it does a little bit of everything: volumizes, lengthens, curls, and defines. It does all of this while having a long wear with minimal smudging/transfer or flaking.
I also want to compare Lash Wrap to another clean tubing mascara: caliray Come Hell or High Water (rated ****4.7). caliray Mascara provides more volume and more intense black pigment while still having that same long wear. This mascara works in the same way, wrapping each individual lash with ‘tubes’ of mascara. What makes the caliray mascara a little better is that it doesn’t have as messy of an application. However, it doesn’t have the ergonomic handle that GUIDE Beauty mascara has.
