Let’s review iconic GHD Platinum Plus Flat Iron. It’s definitely the prettiest straightener on the market. But is it also the safest hair iron?

Is GHD Platinum the safest Flat Iron?
GHD Platimun Plus Flat Iron has to be the prettiest straightener on the market. But that is just our opinion. The important claim that GHD Straightener makes is the safety of their iron. They keep the temperature at constant 365F. There is a caveat to this claim. This claim is true for hot flat irons only (we talking up to 450F). As you maybe aware, there are other technologies that are much safer than hot plated hair tools. So, let’s dig deeper and see if this might be the safest hot hair tool on the market. So let’s get into the GHD Platinum Plus Review.

GHD Platinum Plus Technology
What makes GHD Platinum Plus Flat Iron technology special? Here is the list: Ultra-zone™ with predictive technology, Wishbone hinge, optimum styling temperature, High-gloss plates, 250x second temperature feedback loop. Let’s break it down.
- Ultra Zone technology tries to predict how much heat transfer is needed to style the hair at 365F. Through their research 365F is the optimal temperature to style the hair with. So no matter if you are moving quicker or slower, have small section of hair or big section of hair the heating technology will transfer enough energy to heat the hair to 365F.
- Wishbone hinge is an awesome design feature that prevents your hair from getting caught in the flat iron. If you have ever used a flat Iron, you know that is one of the things to watch out for.
- Optimum styling temperature per GHD is 365F. They take the guessing game out of users hands. They have their circuitry set the temperature and keep it there no matter what is between the plates.
- 250x second temperature feedback loop is achieved by use of multitude of sensors. This is a necessary part of technology if the Flat Iron is going to try to predict and /or keep the constant temperature of the hair.
Promises vs. Performance: GHD Platinum Plus Flat Iron
The claims and technologies that GHD has packed into their Platinum Plus hair straightener sound phenomenal. Sign me up! By theory the results should be nothing less of perfect shine and smooth hair. Going beyond perfect results, the hair should stay healthy! WOW. Hot tool that keeps your hair healthy – that is a very big claim.
My Review Thoughts: GHD Platinum Plus
I’m going to start the review by stating the obvious, there is a lot of stiff competition on the market for GHD Platinum Plus Flat Iron. Brands like Dyson have completely flipped the script away from hot plates with many of their hair stylers. Then there is Bio Ionic with outstanding material technology, and T3 right behind them… From our experience with all of these tools, the one area GHD does shine is dealing with safety issue, and even that has limitations.
From our experience, we would say the predictive technology works very well, but it is geared more toward the safety at the expense of results. In particular, Dyson and Bio Ionic make multiple tools that produce better results. Bio Ionic 10x has to be the true One-Pass Flat Iron – it is the fastest and smoothest tool on the market to this day. While Dyson, even though is does take a bit more time, the results are none like any other.
Wishbone hinge is simply an outstanding design feature of GHD. We love it! Hair just finds a way to get snagged in most other (if not all) flat irons. The 250X per second feedback sensors are outstanding, which is better than what Dyson uses in their Corrale Flat Iron. However, we are not sure if the heat transfer rate can change that fast in this tool due to limitation of their material technology. GHD straightener does not specify what kind of materials they use. It is safer to assume, it does not rival their competitors.

Let’s Review How GHD Platinum Plus Compares to Best Flat Irons.
Bio Ionic 10X is a favorite of mine:
The vibrating plates of Bio Ionic 10X is what really sets this flat iron apart from the rest. What the vibrating plates do is create more surface contact with strands of hair for faster and safer styling. The vibrating plates make it so that you don’t have to keep going over sections of hair and make Bio Ionic 10X a true one-pass flat iron. More than that, those plates make it the best flat iron for curling, waving, flicking… the hair. It’s just so smooth! Without it, it would not be a top Competitor.
As you may have heard me say in the video review, GHD Platinum Plus Flat Iron simply can not compete with the results of Bio Ionic 10X. Even though it does take more passes With GHD to get the shiny results, it does have the extra safety circuitry to prevent hair damage. Bio Ionic does not go that extra mile of caution.
Dyson Corrale incorporated ground breaking technology:
My favorite hair straightening tool is the Dyson Corrale. Dyson is known for their innovation and technology, and the Corrale is no different. What sets this one apart from others is its cordless design and flexible plates that keep hair together as you style. Apart from making this iron work with limited battery power, the flexible plates is the true secret of this iron. This is the big secret to produce best results – bye bye freezy hair!
Corrale has a max temperature of 410°F and intelligent heat control to continuously measure the temperature (100x per second) to avoid heat spikes. This is where GHD shines again, platinum plus straightener measures 250x second to make sure proper temperature is set and no heat spots are present.
GHD Platinum Plus Flat Iron Dupe:
Everyone loves a good dupe, so I thought I would plug a section into this review about GHD Platinum Plus Dupe. So, if Bio Ionic 10X ($239) or Dyson Corrale ($499) are out of your price range, my favorite value flat iron is the Kristin Ess 3-in-1 straightener. This one retails for $90 and, for the price, provides pretty great results. It features alloy titanium and gold metal for fast heating, and the plates adjust to hair texture to cover more surface area at a time. The temperature goes up to 440°F and has 4 heat settings for customizable styling. On the aesthetics note, Kristen Ess looks like a sister of GHD platinum plus.
