ghd Duet Style allows you to dry and style hair at the same time.
Here at Milabu Beauty Review, you’ll find unbiased reviews and deep-dives into just about every beauty product imaginable. I don’t know about you, but I’m skeptical of some hair tools on the market – especially the wet to dry hair stylers that promise no heat damage. However, these hair tools are getting increasingly more technologically advanced year after year. The new ghd Duet Style is the first 2-in-1 hot air styler that promises to transform hair from wet to dry with no heat damage. Based on its ‘air styler’ name, I was hoping I would be able to achieve not only straight, blowout like results, but perhaps straightener curls too. But, I can’t say it did much more than straighten my hair.
Promises vs. Performance: Innovation meets efficient hair styling.
The ghd Duet Style allows you to dry and style hair at the same time – with no damage! It’s the first 2-in-1 hot air styler that combines the best in heat and drying technologies together. Ghd uses Air-fusion™ technology which “combines state of the art internal aerodynamics with 4 smart heated styling plates to efficiently dry and style hair simultaneously.” The plates are equipped with smart styling technology and have infinity sensors which predict hair’s needs to maintain an optimal low temperature from root to tip. Duet Style has a revolutionary air drying chamber air grille which works with the smart low temperature plates for concentrated airflow and even temperature distribution. It also has a unique air filter design and expertly angled root-drying vents that allow for maximum airflow and powerful performance for optimal drying with no extreme heat.
Ghd Duet Style uses 365°F with no air when Shine Shot™ mode is turned on for frizz-free, 2x shinier, 3.5x more hair alignment results. It promises no sizzling or burning smell, and is eco-friendly with up to 30% less energy consumption when using.
How To Use
To use, ghd says to remove excess water and begin with towel dried hair. Using about 2 inch sections (no wider than the width of the plates). Start at the roots, holding the styler for 3 seconds before gliding slowly down the hair, repeating until section is dry. After hair is dry (optional step), activate the Shine Shot™ mode for an extra boost of shine/to use the ghd Duet Style as a flat iron.
My personal thoughts.
The ghd Duet Style is a great tool for two things and two things only: drying and straightening hair to achieve sleek, shiny results in one step. Its plates are smooth and glide like butter through hair when styling. However, you do need a brush to guide the hair through the plates to achieve tangle free results. Needless to say, I had to use both hands to operate ghd Duet Style to ensure the section of hair stayed clamped as the plates glided down the section of hair. I may have taken a small break in between styling my hair since both arms were in constant use.
When using the Shine Shot™, I did notice my hair smelled a little, but in regular drying mode it doesn’t smell. From my experience with ghd hair tools, my hair does have a particular ghd smell. I think it could result from the coating that the tools have. Otherwise, Duet Style design is compact, considering it’s a hair dryer and flat iron in one. This makes this hair tool a good option if you’re trying to save space for travel or on storage. Duet Style heats up quick and the motor is pretty quiet, which I always appreciate! Who wants a noisy tool in their ear?!
Quick Rating Rundown
ghd Duet Style Dupe
Let’s introduce the one and only Remington Wet 2 Style Flat Iron, an oldie hair styling tool that also dries and styles hair. The flat iron features a unique venting system using hot plates to remove moisture from hair when it’s damp, taking the hair to dry and smooth all in one. Can this $30 Remington Wet2Style flat iron be a dupe for the $400 ghd Duet Style?
At the end of the day, ghd Duet Styler uses aerodynamics with low-temperature air to dry and style damp hair, while Remington flat iron uses hot plates up to 450° F to remove moisture from damp hair to achieve smooth, sleek results. I personally think ghd Duet Style did a more efficient job than Remington Wet 2 Style flat iron. To my surprise, Wet2Style took twice as long to dry the hair, resulting with kinks towards the bottom of the hair and not as straight as ghd Duet Style.

In my personal opinion, Remington Wet2Style flat iron is not efficient, the hissing noise from the steam scares me, and I don’t feel comfortable using this tool on my hair over and over again due to the high heat on my hair when it’s damp. ghd Duet Style technology offers some comfort in knowing that the extremely hot plates are not turned on while the low temperature air dries my hair. Overall, I think Remington Wet 2 Style is a good enough dupe for ghd Duet Style, however there are major hair safety concerns, so definitely use caution if you choose this option.
How It Compares: It’s not my #1 hair tool recommendation.
All in all, I am impressed with the results of the ghd Duet Style, but it’s not something I would recommend over a normal hair straightener + blow drier or a tool like the Dyson Airwrap if you are looking for versatility. Since you can’t create variety of hair curls with Duet Style, it’s not as versatile as a regular flat iron or the Airwrap. This tool is made for a niche market who exclusively wants to dry and straighten hair only.
If you’re looking for the ultimate hair tool, the safest hair tool, and the most versatile hair tool, I recommend the Dyson Airwrap. It dries hair, smooths flyaways, creates the perfect blowout, and curls hair. The curling barrels are also semi-automatic, using something called Coanda Technology to attract hair, safely wrapping it around the barrels. Plus, it doesn’t use damaging heat.
