Freck Rich B Face Primer isn’t your typical gripping primer.

When I think of a gripping primer, I think of something like Milk Makeup Hydro Grip, which leaves the skin feeling tacky, ready for makeup to adhere. But, Freck Rich B Gripping Face Primer is a bit different. While the formula itself is tacky and sticky, it doesn’t feel that way on the skin. I was definitely intrigued when I first tried this product, and eager to see if it helped grip my makeup on.

Freck Beauty Rich B is a hydrating, gripping, multi-benefit serum primer. It protects, hydrates, and rejuvenates skin creating a smooth canvas. It has a unique cream to oil texture with a stretchy, tacky feel. In addition, it features a handful of skincare ingredients, such as: prickly pear oil for hydration and skin barrier protection, Japanese camelia oil are fatty acids and vitamin E to hydrate and improve texture, meadowfoam seed oil which is a skin balancing antioxidant, yam root to strengthen the skin barrier and support elasticity, and rosemary leaf extract to soothe.

The Freck Beauty Rich B Primer has a super interesting texture when first pumped out. It’s super sticky and tacky, almost glue-like! But, it doesn’t feel like this after applied. On the skin, it transforms from the tacky cream texture to an oil, instantly boosting hydration. It smooths texture immediately, helping minimize the appearance of pores and lines too. Makeup applies well over top without any patchiness or lifting. While it’s a solid primer for smoothing and hydrating, I can’t say it’s the best at actually extending the longevity of makeup. It doesn’t make my makeup wear for shorter, but it definitely doesn’t have a wow-factor in increasing makeup wear time.

How It Compares: There are better face primers out there.

Where Freck Rich B Primer excels is in minimizing the appearance of texture and skincare benefits. It feels lightweight on, while diminishing the appearance of pores and lines for a smooth canvas. It doesn’t quite have the gripping and makeup extending factor that I look for in a makeup primer. So, what are the best gripping and blurring primers? Let’s take a look.

Comparison To Other Primers

Industry Standard

Benefit POREfessional Primer is widely accepted as the the best primer for both gripping and blurring. Its silicone texture helps diminish the appearance of pores and fine lines, while giving makeup a base to adhere to. What I think sets this primer apart from the rest is its impeccable pore and line filling results. It’s one of the best at helping skin appear smoother.

Best Clean Primers

There are two clean beauty face primers that I love: Milk Makeup Hydro Grip and caliray So Blown – and I enjoy both for different effects. Milk Makeup Hydro Grip has excellent gripping with its tacky feel on skin and also boosts hydration, which is where it is similar to Freck Rich B. But, when it comes to blurring, caliray So Blown beautifully blurs the skin, from pores to lines to texture.

Drugstore Primer

elf Power Grip Primer has been dubbed a great dupe for the beloved Milk Makeup Hydro Grip. It has the same jelly consistency and tacky texture, leaving behind a grippy base for makeup. The newest member of the Power Grip family is the pink primer, which has an addition of 4% niacinamide in the formula. This formula is much more similar to Freck Beauty Rich B Primer since it has an inclusion of skincare benefits.
