Fenty Beauty by Rihanna’s Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation Review: This flawless makeup deserves the hype.
Goddess of music, beauty, fashion, and philanthropy, Rihanna is hotter than her fiery Gloss Bomb lip plumper. Her Fenty Beauty line offers so many celebrated products, and I’ve tried everything from face primers to mascara, but one of the standouts is Pro Flit’r Soft Matte Foundation. This Fenty foundation provides medium to full coverage that lasts all day. But, there are some tips I have when using Rihanna foundation.
Promises vs. Performance: Soft? Matte? Long wearing? Yes, yes, and yes!
Rihanna’s involvement in her brand and the way she creatively wears her own products is inspiring. “You asked, Rihanna answered,” Fenty.com states about Pro Filt’r, which boasts one of the most inclusive shade ranges in the industry: 50 shades! Can you believe it? This Fenty foundation features a formula that gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free look. It is said to be a soft matte, buildable medium to full coverage foundation that stands up to sweat and humidity without clogging pores (many thanks to its oil-free formula). Pro Filt’r promises to feel light as air on the skin and be undetectable.
Review Thoughts on Fenty Pro Filter Foundation
With 50 shades, I sure hope everyone can find an exact match! I have two shades in my collection, shades 120 and 170. Depending on the time of year, one is a perfect match on its own, or I can mix them. I like to start with one pump on the back of my hand so that I can build up the coverage. I put a few dabs onto my skin and work it in with my favorite Bobbi Brown Face Brush (worth every penny of its $55 price tag). When blending with a brush, I do feel like I have to work a bit to get it to really spread out across my face. Given the creaminess of the formula, a damp Beautyblender works really well. Pro Filt’r layers well to build to your desired coverage.
Once applied, the texture of the foundation almost instantly becomes a beautiful, soft matte. The coverage is a true buildable medium to full, and the wear is unstoppable against oil, sweat, and humidity. I end the day with a natural matte finish and a bit of glow peeking through – nothing a dab of powder can’t fix!
Quick Rating Rundown
:Fenty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation
How It Compares: Is this the best matte foundation in the price range?
I really enjoyed Pro Filt’r makeup and rank it among my favorite products by Fenty. It’s not surprising that a foundation she helped formulate is a knockout. I am so impressed by the way it wears and performs. It covers redness, blurs pores, and provides an even complexion for over 8 hours with minimal fading, cracking, or budging. As far as matte foundation finishes, I believe it’s one of the most beautiful because it gives a natural, blurred skin appearance. It controls shine but somehow allows a healthy glow to peek through – which I love! I hesitate to apply this foundation with a brush due to its thicker formula, but a dampened sponge pairs beautifully. At this stage of the review, let’s compare Fenty Foundation to top contenders.
Double Wear’s reputation as the standard, go-to matte foundation is just as impressive and lasting as the foundation’s formula. It has been a fan favorite for more than two decades, coming with the added benefits of SPF protection, something Pro Filt’r is missing. It is available in more than 55 shades, even surpassing Fenty’s impressive range. The formula is just as resilient to oil, sweat, heat, and humidity and resists cracking, creasing, fading, and transfer with its 24-HR wear claim (Pro Filt’r only calls itself long wearing). It is a thicker formula as well, very similar to Pro Filt’r that benefits most from being applied with a dampened sponge. Although Estée Lauder ultimately has the edge on Fenty, you can’t go wrong with either product. Plus, Pro Filt’r is gentler on the wallet at $38.
