Is the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer worth its luxury price tag?
Dyson Supersonic is the gold standard hair dryer, the creme de la creme. It’s a coveted hair dryer for a reason, and it’s not just because of its luxury price tag. The technology is what makes it so phenomenal, and worth its high price tag if you ask me. I feel like taking care of your hair is important, especially if you get it colored/highlighted regularly. A good hair dryer should do a few things: not cause damage, not contribute to frizziness, and not burn the hair or scalp. To no surprise, Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer does it all and more.
Promises vs. Performance: Dyson Hair Dryer Review highlights.
There’s a lot of technology packed into this 1.8lb hair dryer. Dyson hair dryer is engineered with ‘intelligent heat control’ protect hair from extreme heat damage. It has 4 precise heat settings ranging from 82°F to 212°F, plus cold shot button to set hair after styling. When compared to naturally dried hair, Supersonic helps increase smoothness by 75%, increase shine by up to 132%, and decrease frizz and flyways by up to 61%. Dyson promises fast drying and controlled styling on all hair types. Supersonic has 6 different attachments for various drying/styling techniques. And finally, the boring spec, it uses 1600 watts to do it.

- After Market Attachments
There have been several after market attachments developed. This is very exiting and in a way revealing how big of a status the Dyson hair dryer has. I’ve tested some and they do work pretty well! The best attachment for the Dyson supersonic is the adapter that allows the owners to use all the attachments from the Dyson Airwrap. With the adapter hair dryer can use the coveted airwrap barrels. My personal review thoughts on Dyson Hair dryer.
After owning this hair dryer and testing many others over the last 4+ years, I have decided to write Dyson hair dryer review. Also, I wanted to provide a few comparisons to the supersonic hair dryer. This hair dryer has enough smarts. It has the perfect amount of technology to set it apart from others and making it easy to use for all. What makes Dyson hair dryer unique is its ‘intelligent heat control’ that protects the hair from extreme heat damage. The heat settings range from 82°F (constant cold) to 212°F (fast drying and styling). For precise results, 3 speed settings high (fast drying and styling), medium (regular drying), and low (diffusing). The controls are easy to use and in a spot where you won’t accidentally press a button while styling and change your settings. Another great feature is the magnetic attachments, making for an easy, secure attachment.
But, how does it actually dry hair? Well, pretty perfectly! Dyson hair dryer is right when they promise fast drying and controlled styling. I tested Supersonic one-to-one with other popular hair dryers and it dried one side of my hair in less than 2 & 1/2 minutes – talk bout impressive! When I use my Dyson, I experience less breakage overtime. It has great frizz and flyaway control, leaving hair smooth and shiny.
Quick Rating Rundown
How It Compares: Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer Review vs …
Between Dyson hair dryer technology and performance, Supersonic is the holy grail hair dryer. I have being on a look out for Dyson Hair Dryer review(s) and new product releases to see if anyone will bring a comaptible product to the marker, maybe shark. Needless to say, many have tried to emulate it, but few have come close to being as great as the Dyson hair dryer. With its intelligent heat technology, hair is protected from extreme heat damage, plus the results are sleek, smooth hair with minimal frizz and flyaways. The motor is pretty quiet for a blow dryer, and it isn’t too heavy to hold especially with its impressively fast drying time! The one area of improvement would be revise and include more smarts into the Dyson hair dryer, after all it has not been updated in 6 years now.
A close competitor
GAMA Professional IQ Perfetto is another top blow dryer with claims of up to 30% faster dry time. Plus, it boasts being the world’s lightest hair dryer at under 1 pound! It does dry fast, but not as fast. One other thing, even thought it is very light, it can be awkward to hold. Let’s continue and compare to other Dyson hair dryer review specs, Gama airflow mouth concentrator is at least half the size, which results in a bit longer drying time (about 4 minutes per side). However, this makes it great for precise hair styling and/or at-home blowouts. It’s also a bit noisier! When filming the comparison test, the dB levels on our camera doubled with the GAMA compared to the Dyson. It still has that higher-pitched supersonic sound, but IQ Perfetto is definitely not as quiet as the Supersonic.
Even thought Gama has some very interesting new technology like verturi effect and Oxy Active Technology, it dose not protect hair from extreme heat damage, and provides limited controlled styling technology. To be fair, Gama is trying to emulate controlled styling with Oxy Active technology to provide Shiny and elastic hair, but my hair seems healthier with Dyson. This might be due to heat damage controls that Dyson provides.
Down to the venturi effect technology, where due to pressure differences the hair dryer gets more airflow. This would be interesting if Gama dried hair fasted or at least if it was much quiet. It even uses more power coming in at 1700 watts, while if you read the Dyson hair dryer review highlights, it comes at 1600 watts. It is hard to see where the venturi technology is of any help when comraped to Dyson.
