Could Lash Blast Clean be the best Covergirl mascara?
Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane and reminisce on what was one of my first mascaras ever: Covergirl Lash Blast. Yep, the OG orange tube mascara that we’ve probably all used at some point. Lash Blast is nostalgic for me, so I was excited to test out the revamped clean version. It’s exciting to see beauty brands come out with cleaner mascara formulas that help keep lashes conditioned and are better suited for sensitive eyes. Could this be the best Covergirl mascara?
Promises vs. Performance: 10 times the volume of bare lashes? Yes, please!
Let’s talk Covergirl Lash Blast, specifically the Clean Volume Mascara. This formula is free of parabens, sulfates, talc, and mineral oil, but contains argan and marula oils to condition lashes. Lash Blast Clean promises to give lashes 10 times the volume and length, for fuller, longer lashes. It claims an all day wear with no clumping at application or smudging throughout the day.
Lash Blast Clean Volume doesn’t have my favorite applicator. It has a densely packed wand that can clump, so make sure to wipe off the excess on the side of the tube. I don’t get as much volume as I expected from the claims, but my lashes do look longer and lifted. I enjoy the consistency of the formula, which isn’t too dry or too wet (I prefer my mascara on the drier side).
Furthermore, this mascara passes my wear test! It lasts all day long (over 8 hours) with no flaking, and minimal transfer and smudging. While this isn’t my holy grail drugstore mascara, it’s a really good one. And one of my favorite clean drugstore formulas.
Quick Rating Rundown

How It Compares: This is the best Covergirl mascara, but is it the best drugstore mascara?
Covergirl Lash Blast Clean has an above average wear time and performance, however, it does lack in application and volume. It does apply mostly clump free, giving lashes length, and lift. But, the short, densely packed bristled wand makes it hard to build volume. Lash Blast Clean wears with little to no flaking and very minimal smudging or transfer. For me, longevity is one of the biggest factors in making a mascara good or not.
I think if you’re looking for an affordable, clean mascara formula specifically, this is one of the best. The only other comparable clean drugstore mascara formula is Honest Beauty Extreme Length, but it does come at a higher price point. Though, it is worth checking out since it is a primer and mascara duo. This mascara really has an edge because of the primer. The combination of it and the mascara formula delivers more the volume that the Covergirl formula doesn’t. And, it has a longer wear. That’s a win in my book!
As much as I enjoy a clean mascara formula, Maybelline Lash Sensational (rated ****4.6) is still my holy grail. With Lash Sensational, I get a clump free application that gives my lashes curl, volume, and length. It wears all day long with minimal flaking, smudging, and/or transfer. I prefer the brush on this mascara more as it is less prone to clumping and helps to better separate the lashes.
