Our Rating Criteria

COVERGIRL Cheekers Blush is an easy to use drugstore powder blush.

Think of the first blush you ever used. I know I didn’t start on fancy blush from Sephora. If you’re like me, it was probably something from the drugstore, like the iconic COVERGIRL Cheekers. So, why is this blush iconic? Well, for starters, it’s been around for years. This classic blush may be simple, but it gets the job done when it comes to easy cheek color.

Promises vs. Performance: Cheekers is a no frills powder blush.

COVERGIRL doesn’t have many claims for Cheekers Blush. Simply put, this pressed powder blush promises to deliver buildable, blendable color. It has a natural finish with a slight shimmer. The 13 shades are suited for all skin tones, giving the perfect, no fuss blush look.

Meet COVERGIRL Cheekers Blush: a tiny compact of powder blush that comes with a not-so-great brush. When applied with a proper blush brush, Cheekers is a solid powder cheek color. It comes in a variety of flattering, universal shades that give cheeks a natural, slightly luminous finish (think lit-from-within glow!). This blush isn’t crazy pigmented, but thats part of what makes it great. It has a buildable, blendable formula that is hard to overdo. However, there are some things to keep in mind with the application.

Of course, you’ll want a proper blush brush (this one from Real Techniques is great). Next, you’ll want to ensure your base makeup is prepped properly. If you’re wearing something that has a more dewy finish or tacky feel, you’ll want to set it with a finishing powder before applying this blush for best results. Because of its soft powder texture, I find that it can apply patchy if my base makeup is too wet. Your chosen base will also determine the longevity of Cheekers. For me, I find Cheekers lasts as long as my base makeup, i.e. around 6 hours of wear with a tinted moisturizer.

How It Compares: Is there something better than COVERGIRL Cheekers Blush?

Even though its not the best blush, Cheekers is an iconic, blast-from-the-past blush. It is your basic, no frills pressed powder blush formula. The soft pigment is buildable and blendable for a natural, healthy flush. However, the application isn’t flawless. It can apply patchy if your base makeup isn’t set before applying. It also doesn’t have the longest wear. Cheekers can fade pretty quickly depending on your base makeup and if you set your entire face. For best results, top off your look with a setting spray like Morphe Continuous Setting Mist ($17).

So, which blush is the best at the drugstore? An all-around stellar performer is e.l.f. Primer-Infused Blush. This blush has a soft, creamy powder texture that applies beautifully. It doesn’t apply patchy on top of tackier bases, and it has a much longer wear thanks to the primer-infused formula. There are a few less shades to choose from, but the performance is what makes this one of the best blushes at the drugstore.

Truthfully, there’s a ton of great powder blushes at the drugstore. We here at Milabu Co. have put together a list of our favorites, for all your powder blush needs! Both COVERGIRL and e.l.f. made the list, plus a handful of other faves (have you ever tried Milani blushes? Gorgeous!). Did your favorite make the list? Check and see here.
