At just under $50, Conair Infiniti PRO takes the win as the best cheap flat iron.

My favorite hair straighteners have titanium plates and are usually found in the $100+ price range. I was on the hunt for a more affordable option, specifically one under $50, that featured titanium plates. After testing and testing, I came to the conclusion that the best is the Conair Infiniti PRO 1″ Rainbow Titanium Flat Iron. It isn’t perfect, but I’m pretty pleased with how this drugstore hair straightener performs.

Promises vs. Performance: Conair promises smooth, shiny results.

Conair Infiniti PRO Flat Iron features 1″ rainbow titanium plates that help protect hair against heat damage as well as control frizz. The plates are both floating and extra long to help with better hair contact and faster styling. It features a powerful ion generator that controls frizz; Conair says you will hear a soft clicking sound which means the ions are flowing. This flat iron has a ceramic heater that heats up in just 30 seconds and has 6 temperature settings that go up to 450°F. For safety, Infiniti PRO Flat Iron does have an auto-shut off feature.

My personal thoughts.

The Conair Infiniti PRO Rainbow Titanium Flat Iron is one of the best budget-friendly hair straighteners. In my opinion, its performance rivals that of GHD, T3, and Kristin Ess. When straightening, it gives shiny, sleek results with minimal frizz. But, when curling/waving, it does leave behind a bit of frizz. For the most part, the titanium plates lend to smooth, easy styling. However, hair can snag towards the top of the plates (opening of the straightener) and when curling it can result in more frizziness. That being said, it does create beautiful, crease-free curls that look as if you used a curling iron! My hair still looks shiny and full of life when I use this hair tool and, for the price, I’m pretty impressed.

The one thing I will say is that it has a lack of digital controls. It doesn’t tell you the exact temperature, only which setting to choose depending on your hair texture/type. Personally, I like being able to know the exact temperature of the hair tool I am using. I like staying in the upper 200°F to mid 300°F range as I know it is safer than extreme high heat (400°F+) and my hair responds well to these temperatures.

Along the same thought, titanium plates (without assistance from other technologies like advanced circuitry, extra sensors, and/or vibrating plates) allow you to style at lower temperatures because they transfer heat to the hair much quicker than ceramic based alloys. Fast heat transfer is important for the Hair Straighteners since they slide through the hair and only have about 1 second to deliver the proper amount of heat to the hair. Ceramic alloys deliver heat at a lower pace, which in general makes them more ideal on curling irons but not for straighteners. It’s worth noting that titanium, gold, and copper based alloy technology comes with more risk and can damage hair quicker if not used properly, or if not incorporated into the hair tools properly.

I am pleased with how the Conair Infiniti PRO styles my hair. It does a great job at both straightening and curling without extreme heat damage, snagging, creasing, or having to go over sections of the hair multiple times. But, I will say, I do still prefer my Bio Ionic 10X or Dyson Corrale because of the technology and results. However, I know that those are pricer and not budget-friendly. If you’re just into styling your hair you may not want to spend a bunch on a hair tool. In that case the Conair Infiniti PRO Rainbow would be a good option.

Our Rating Criteria

How It Compares: Conair Infiniti PRO is a solid budget-friendly flat iron.

I set out with a mission to find an affordable, drugstore flat iron with titanium plates and I’d say I conquered. Conair Infiniti PRO Flat Iron retails for just shy of $50 and features rainbow titanium plates. Titanium plates give more even heat distribution and more consistent styling. This hair straightener doesn’t contribute to too much excess frizz (though it can when curling/waving) for smooth, sleek results. It heats up quickly and has 6 temperature settings up to 450°F for customizable styling. While this isn’t my holy grail, I-will-use-every-day hair straightener, I am pretty impressed with the Conair Infiniti PRO and think it’s the best value option on the market.

Which hair straightener to choose?

The Conair Infiniti PRO Flat Iron with rainbow titanium plates is the perfect entry level, budget-friendly option. The titanium plates provide even heat distribution that allows for faster, consistent styling. You can easily create straight, wavy, or curly hairstyle with this hair tool. With 6 different heat settings, you really can customize your styling to your specific hair type.

If you’re looking for something with a little more oomph, Kristin Ess 3-in-One is a great option. At $90, you get a flat iron that rivals the performance of higher-end hair tools. The user-friendly tool allows you to easily create multiple hair styles. It has 4 heat settings for more styling control, and gives snag-free, crease-free results.

The holy grail of hair straightening tools is the Dyson Corrale. The most pricey of the bunch, but it is worth it for someone who straightens/styles their hair daily. Its intelligent heat control ensures the temperature never exceeds the heat setting you have selected. The flex plates are what make this hair tool really special. They move as you style, shaping to gather hair, keeping it together for excellent styling results. Plus, it has a cord-free design for easy styling.
