Beachwaver Curling Iron – what is it?
Here at Milabu Beauty Review, you’ll find unbiased reviews and deep-dives into just about every beauty product imaginable. If you’ve scoured the Internet for Beachwaver reviews, look no further. But, first – what is the Beachwaver Curling Iron? Simply put, it is an automated curling iron that does the hard work for you, AKA rotates to curl hair around the barrel, leaving you with bouncy, beachy waves.
Can you use the Beachwaver for short hair? Yep, you can! Even though the Beachwaver website claims its best suited for shoulder length or longer, I’ve used it on all different hair lengths.
Quick Rating Rundown
Promises vs. Performance: This might be the best rotating curling iron, but why?
The Beachwaver Curling Iron claims to work for any hair type and texture, but is said to work best with shoulder length or longer. It features automatic rotation that curls hair around the barrel with just the touch of the button. The ceramic barrel features even heat distribution and a smaller clamp to prevent kinks in hair. Beachwaver allows for the creation of three styles: defined curls, relaxed waves, and glam waves. The heat ranges from 290°F – 410°F (Pro Line is 310°F – 450°F), can be switched between °F and °C, and features an automatic shut-off after 30 minutes.
Beachwaver isn’t fully automatic and has an arrow button control for rotating, a hi/lo speed switch, and a home button to reset the clamp back to its starting position. It comes in three different size options, including 0.75″, 1″ and 1.25″, along with two different series options, the S and Pro Line (for buy links to each, see below). The main differences between the S-series and Pro Line is extra controls, a longer cord, and a longer ceramic barrel (5.5″ vs 6″). The S-series has minimal controls with its two speeds, while the Pro Line has an automatic rotation with its’ go’ button, rotating left or right depending on which side you are curling. They both feature swivel cords, with the S-series being 8 ft and the Pro being 9 ft.
My personal thoughts.
The Beachwaver comes in multiple size barrels ranging from 0.75″ to 1.25″. My personal favorite is the ‘S1’ series, which features a 1″ barrel. I find this one is the most versatile, suiting all hair lengths. I love the idea of an automatic hair curler, especially for consistent results and those new to curling their hair. But, I will say, the controls do take a bit of getting used to and there aren’t very many control options. You have two rotation speeds. The high speed can be a little fast, so I recommend starting on the lower speed to get the hang of the Beachwaver. And, in the vent you need to reset the iron, it has a home button to return to the starting position.
What makes the Beachwaver Curling Iron so great is the hassle-free, consistent results. However, this can also be seen as a negative aspect of the hair curler. If you like to strictly style your hair in beachy waves, the Beachwaver would be a great option. It’s easy and gives consistent beachy hair every time. But, if you’re like me and like doing different types of hairstyles, you’ll probably find it lacking in versatility. It doesn’t offer the same type of control as a typical curling iron does, like my favorite T3 Curling Iron. That being said, I do still like having this hair tool in my collection for days I want easy, beachy curls.
Beachwaver Purchasing Options
S-Series Options
- S.75 is a 0.75″ curling iron: This one is great for tighter curls. For more coarse hair you would need to hold the hair in the iron a bit longer.
- S1 is a 1.0″ curling iron: If you want definition but don’t want your curls to be too tight, this is a great iron option.
- S1.25 is a 1.25″ curling iron: This one is great for loose hair curls. To adjust how loose the curls are, play with the release time of the hair from the iron.
Pro-Line Options
- Beachwaver Pro 1 is a 1.0″ curling iron: This option will deliver the heat much quicker than the regular option due to a different plating alloy – Gold infused ceramic tourmaline alloy. Make sure to adjust how long you hold the iron in the hair. This is a much better option for people with coarse hair. It’s also 6.5″ long instead of 5.5″ for S versions. This is great for people with longer hair.
- Beachwaver Pro 1.25 is a 1.25″ curling iron: Again, this is a great option for coarse hair. The addition of gold into the ceramic alloy provides faster heat transfer to the hair. And, it’s 6.5″ long which makes it ideal for longer hair, it’s 1″ longer over the S1.25 version.

How It Compares: Beachwaver Curling Iron is the best automatic curling iron for hassle-free styling.
If you struggle with getting the perfect beachy waves, this is the tool for you. You get consistently good results with this semi-automatic hair curler. Its hassle-free automation is great for both novices and pros when it comes to creating waves. Beachwaver is great at creating waves, but not much else. It only allows you to create three different styles: defined curls, relaxed waves, and glam waves. Since it is an automatic curler, it’s hard to have versatility with this hair curler. It does have adjustable heat from 290°F – 410°F, and a home button to easily reset the rotation at the center. Even though we wish there were more controls for more versatility, there is a market for these-type of automation and hassle-free hair tools.
The Beachwaver barrel is made of ceramic, which is arguably the safest material for curling tools rather than gold plated or titanium. This is because it provides more even heat distribution with a slower heat transfer that prevents hair damage. For an even better ceramic barrel, the Pro Line features gold infused ceramic tourmaline which would be great for faster styling. This also, would be a great curling iron for more thicker and coarse hair because it will deliver the heat much quicker to the hair due to the better thermal properties of Gold.
Talking about automation, Beachwaver is not a full automation curling iron. It’s a semi automated hair curler. This is a positive at this point because all the fully automated irons have major flaws. For instance, non of them get close to the hair roots, the results produce too much frizz, the curls do not last all day, and there is very little control over the type of curls you could do. The issues get even bigger with cordless automated hair curlers, like Conair Unbound Automated Curling Iron. The battery technology is not ahead enough to provide the required power for heated hair tools. Hence, the battery life is too short for it to be dependable.
Which hair tool to choose?
The Beachwaver Curling Iron doesn’t provide versatility, but it provides consistent results for beachy waves. It has even heat distribution thanks to its ceramic barrel and works great for multiple hair lengths and textures. If you want to just create beachy waves, this is a great tool to do so hassle-free.
For a classic (non-automated) curling iron tool to create multiple curly hair looks with, check out either the Conair Double Ceramic Curling Iron or the Hot Tools 24k Gold Curling Iron. The Conair Double Ceramic Curling Iron features a ceramic barrel which allows for more even heat distribution which in return provides longer-lasting curls. Ceramic plating is better for finer hair since it reduces the amount of heat transfer to the hair. However, for thicker hair, it often doesn’t provide enough heat. For thick, coarser hair, the Hot Tool 24K Gold Curling Iron would be the better option. The gold plating delivers heat faster, which is why it is not optimal for finer hair. It can damage finer hair easily.
If you’re looking for the ultimate hair tool, the safest hair tool, and the most versatile hair tool, I recommend the Dyson Airwrap. It dries hair, smooths flyaways, creates the perfect blowout, and curls hair. The curling barrels are also semi-automatic, using something called Coanda Technology to attract hair, safely wrapping it around the barrels. Plus, it doesn’t use damaging heat.
