Is the new amika Blowout Babe Thermal Brush any good?

At home blowout tools are pretty popular in the hair industry. Whether or not you’ve used an OG like the Revlon One-Step Styler, or the coveted Dyson Airwrap, I’m sure you’ve seen these all over your Instagram and TikTok pages. And, there’s always newbies entering the market. One of these newer tools is the amika Blowout Babe Themal Brush. Amika has a long history of creating solid hair styling tools, so I was definitely excited to try this one out.

Promises vs. Performance: At home blowout without the high heat.

amika Blowout Babe Thermal Brush promises a blowout look with no hair dryer or hot air required. It features a 1.5″ ceramic barrel that emits far-infrared heat which penetrates the cortex off the hair cuticle. This heats the hair from inside out, producing more even heat distribution, half the styling time of conventional heat, and, in turn, less damage. It has 0.5″ nylon bristles to grip, smooth, and style any hair type and length. Blowout Babe brush also has an ionic generator that increases negative ion output which produces more shiny, smooth, frizz- and static-free results. It operates at 356°F and features a heat resistant handle, cool tip design, lightweight design, and 9 foot swivel cord.

My personal thoughts on amika brush.

To start with, amika brush provides volume and loose waves (depending on your hair length). If you’re well versed with hair rollers, I think you’ll enjoy this hair tool. I was able to achieve a similar if not better hairstyle with less frizz and more shiny results after using amika thermal brush. Honestly, I can see why the younger generation is obsessed with this brush, especially TikTok. This is their version of hair rollers with just one simple hair tool.

I have to say, not having the hot air blowing from amika brush is a bonus. If you have fine hair, you know the struggle with hair flyaways after using a hair dryer. They’re out of control. The ceramic barrel heats up and all you do is wrap the hair around as you would with a one-step styler like Revlon.

Amika thermal brush is good for fine, thin hair having the temperature set at 356°F. But, thick and coarse hair requires higher temperature to achieve smooth and shiny results. All in all, I wish there were more controls such as temperature ranges for different hair types.

Our Rating Criteria

How amika Blowout Babe Thermal Brush Compares: What’s the best at-home blowout tool?

Amika thermal brush has a lot of competition on the market. Let’s start with hot hair rollers which take up space, are time consuming and the results are more volume driven rather than loose waves and volume. Then we have the big curling irons, think 1.5 inch that can achieve similar results. And obviously, we have our hair stylers that dry and style hair at once.

Comparison To Other Hair Tools

Best Blow Dry Brush

Revlon One Step Styler is the OG styling brush. It differs from the amika Blowout Babe Thermal Brush as it does operate like a blow dryer and uses hot air to style hair. And, it’s gone viral multiple times for a reason: it’s an all-in-one tool for an at-home blowout.

It is shaped like a round brush you would use when blow-drying your hair, allowing you to create bouncy, voluminous hair. It smooths and detangles hair, minimizing flyaways. Unlike traditional dryers, this one can be placed against the scalp to create lift at the root. For ultimate ease, Revlon One-Step Styler is a great tool since it dries and styles hair at the same time. But, there are a few things that could make this one better. In our opinion, it’s too hot on the high setting and could use more than the 3 heat/speed settings it has. This can lead to hair damage if you’re not careful. It also has a bad airflow design that does not distribute heat evenly.

Multi Styler Tools

Other top styling tools worth mentioning are the Dyson Airwrap and Shark FlexStyle. These are similar stylers that have interchangeable tools, including a the same style round brush tool. But, what really separates these tools apart is their safety and technology. They both use Coanda technology, which works to safely attract hair to the curling barrels. Each features drying and styling modes that don’t use extreme heat for minimal hair damage. These are pricier, but they offer great value with their versatility.

Amika Thermal Brush Dupe?

There are so many similar if not copies and dupes for amika brush online, specifically Amazon. One of major concerns is quality control. Even though Amazon offers easy returns, you’ll never get the same quality assurance as big name brands.
